Fenwick's Cranford Leaving Football Program

Fred Cranford is leaving the Fenwick football program to become the new head football coach at Loveland High School.By Skip Weaver

Contributing writer

Another change will be coming to Fenwick High School athletics this fall with longtime football coach Fred Cranford announcing Tuesday that he will be leaving his alma mater to become football coach at Loveland.

“I never thought I would leave, but everything just fell together for me and my family,” said Cranford, who has been a football coach at Fenwick for 15 years including the last seven as head coach. “I’m an alumnus and will always support Fenwick, but this is an exciting opportunity that I had to take a chance on.”

Cranford’s record as the Falcons' head coach is 37-34 overall and 22-27 in Greater Catholic League play. He led the Falcons to their first-ever league title in the GCL last season when they finished 6-1 in a tie with Alter. Fenwick also qualified for the Division IV state playoffs for the first time since 2004.

Fenwick also has a new athletic director and boys’ soccer coach for next school year.

Jon Payne will take over the athletic director duties officially on July 1, but the current A.D. at Fairborn High School will be working closely with Fenwick administrators in the search for a new football coach.

Fenwick also recently hired Ron Fernandez as its new boys’ soccer coach. Fernandez takes over the Falcons program after spending the last four seasons at West Carrollton.
