Report taken form the Middletown Journal
By Jessica Heffner, Staff Writer 1:33 AM Thursday, September 30, 2010
MIDDLETOWN — Residents could see a spike on their water and sewer bills next year if City Council approves a recommended 5 percent increase. Dave Duritsch, Public Works director, said Middletown water and sewer customers would see a 5 percent increase in 2011 and another 5 percent increase in 2012. This equates to an additional $1.25 for water and $1.67 for sewer services on the average monthly residential bill. These increases would cover the additional costs of treating and delivering water, which are included in the fees Middletown charges, according to the city. “Along with everything else, energy and chemical costs are rising. We need to raise rates to keep up with what it costs us to operate the system and to maintain the system,” Duritsch said. Inactive accounts also would be assessed $6.95 a month to cover set charges for water, sewer and landfill services, according to the legislation. Read the complete story here: |

Interesting info. in the article also stated that Fairfield's avg. bill was ~ $49 bucks while the avg. bill for Middletown was ~ $78 bucks. Wonder how Fairfield can deliver water to their customers at such a low rate and Midd. seems to be gouging. Does Midd. pay more for the chemicals used? Does Midd. pay their water plant operators that much more? Why the large discrepancy? Bad time to be asking for 5% more this time and 5% more in the coming year. Too many poor people and too much unemployment in this town to be bleeding them dry on the water bill. As usual, the city doesn't care about the people's predicament.
Does anyone know if you can still have the city come out and put another water meter in for just the outside faucets? I use to have two meters on the other house and would rather not pay the sewer rate on each gallon of water I pump on the lawn in the summer. Water bill has been over $100 bucks the last two months. |

You are right vet on the high water rate, why are they wanting to raise an already high utility. The water fund is always over. Something smells here
