Light up the Sky Festival

CITY OF MONROE LIGHTS UP THE SKY
MONROE, OH, JUNE 17, 2011: Monroe’s “Light Up the Sky” Fourth of July Festival will end in a bang with fireworks displays on July 4th at Monroe Community Park. Fireworks will begin at dark, with gates opening at noon on Monday. Events are planned for the whole day, including a parade, rides and games for the kids. The schedule for the 4th of July events and bands is listed below.

12:30 Live Music by “Middletown Summer Youth Theater”
1:00 Live Music by “Wayne Davis”
3:00 Parade
3:30 Opening Ceremonies
3:45 Live Music By “Balderdash”
5:15 Live Music By “The Comet Bluegrass All-Stars”
7:00 Live Music By “Burning Iris”
8:30 Live Music By “The Rick House Band”
10:00 Light Up The Sky!

Free music entertainment will be headlined by “Rick House Band”. Rick won the “Cammy Award” presented by the Cincinnati Enquirer twice. In both 1999 and 2000, Rick won “BEST ROCK INSTRUMENTALIST in Cincinnati” for his work on the guitar. “Balderdash” formed in 1966 have opened for Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Frank Zappa, The Allman Brothers, Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, Traffic, Grand Funk Railroad and many more. The Comet Bluegrass All-Stars (CBAS) were assembled in 1996. Since that time the CBAS opened for such national acts as Sam Bush, Blue Highway, Del McCoury and Ricky Skaggs. The CBAS won the Cincinnati Enquirer Cammy Award in 2000, 2001 and 2002 for “Best Bluegrass/Folk Band” as well as CityBeat’s Cincinnati Entertainment Awards in 2001, 2002 and 2004 for “Best Bluegrass/Folk Band.” Wayne Davis has over twenty years experiance playing the guitar and signing, playing music with such artist as Mark Chesnut in his youth. Wayne has been in several bands OVER THE YEARS TRYING NEW STYLES OF MUSIC AND PICKING UP NEW LICKS WHERE EVER HE CAN TO FUEL HIS DESIRE TO BETTER HIS GUITAR ABILITY AND FIND HIS OWN PERSONAL STYLE AS AN UP AND COMING GUITAR SLINGER

Multiple food vendors will be in on hand, allowing attendees a wide selection of food. Craft vendors will be airbrushing tatoos, face painting and many more fun activities for the whole family. The city will be hosting the 4th of July parade departing from downtown and ending with an opening ceremony at the park.

Wow why doesn't Middletown have an event like this for the 4th of July weekend? Oh wait we did have one just another thing that left this Town I guess.

I remember a couple years ago we had the money for fireworks but waited to long to contract someone to do it so we missed out. What happened to that money?

Thanks to Team Fastrax and Start Skydiving, Middletown had a good Labor Day fireworks show last year.
Have not heard if they are doing it this year.
