Journal story- Tuesday-Aug. 5- mentions an educational program to reverse the decline in enrollment in Middletown schools and decline in population in town. Mentions funding of $30-$40 million per year. Where will the $30-$40 million per year come from? Tyus says "its about moving forward". Well, Mr. Tyus, your school board can start "moving forward" by improving the basics like improving the test scores and the school's image of producing a quality education. This school system use to be top notch 40 years ago. Now, it's a shell of it's former self. Go back to square one and start teaching the kids the basics. Many of your students can't do simple math, can't construct a sentence and punctuate it correctly, can't read for understanding, can't balance a checkbook or make change at the fast food places. Before you "move forward", fix the programs already in place.
