There are two types of people: those that talk the talk and those that walk the walk. People who walk the walk sometimes talk the talk but most times they don't talk at all, 'cause they walkin.'

Sounds good. IF this story is accurate, Middletown has come a long way in just a short time versus the Marty Kohler "we'll run you out of town if you don't fit my new business profile" program that drove away so many potential businesses. Just wondering why the change in city building attitude from the Kohler days. Seems a bit odd that they would adopt a 180 degree posture so quickly given the fact they knew how many businesses Kohler drove away over the years. Think of the lost opportunities when he was here.
Nevertheless, it is a good direction if true. Still, if the target is new businesses in town, the city needs to get over itself with this insistance on arts businesses and feeding downtown with new opportunities and start rebuilding what they have ignored for decades in the other parts of this city as to business development. Why does Adkins and company place so much emphasis on money waste downtown and completely ignore the outlying areas? What is the infatuation with the downtown particularly since it has shown snail's pace growth the last two decades? |

I'm so proud of my hometown and what it has become. Recall 'em all. Let's start over.

VV: It's all about what the "powers that be" want. The "hysterical" society wants. Just maybe Dougie woke up and realilized what IS important to the masses instead of those groups. JMO

WalletHub isn't a beacon of business ranking success, so stop the hyperventilating.
Middletown had a rank above 1000 for business support ranking, and scored very poorly in the business costs for running a business. Compare that to north Chicago, which was no. 1 overall. This area includes Bannockburn, Lake Forest, Evanston, Wanetka, Arlington Heights, Barrington, and the North Shore. Its one of the most expensive areas in the country, but for small business, they have low cost incubator real estate that is a fraction of Middletown, that has excess real estate capacity on every corner. Add to this Parkersburg, WV and Lima, Ohio were in the top 200. If you have ever driven in Lima, and its ranked higher than Middletown by 50%, there really isn't anything to crow about in the rankings. And, small business owners won't move to Holland, Michigan to start a business because its rated no. 1....unless of course, you sell plant bulbs. |
