u r such a spinner, mtown

I blame the city for a large part of our influx of poverty, crime, business struggles and lagging behind other area communities.

we are the laughing stock of the region
easy action by media when they need a crime/misery story
like our current football team, we don't compete and have forgotten how to win
constant mistakes/turnovers and just going through the motions

I know--all is well--we'll get'em next time!
yes--things are looking up--thanx 2 the out-of-town pros

at least the school system seems to be improving, and embracing broad public involvement from everyone tht wants to contribute/participate

So---since you continue to throw demeaning accusations, please list the management issues within Family Services
Look no further than today's HUD headline and text i. Order to understand the connection between city admin, our demographics, public services strain and Family Services overload/bad decisions.

Wow, spider, blame the city for Maurice's incompetence.
That's a good one.

Correct SWOhio
The current location was all that was available at the time, and a very poor choice.
Was city ED involved in that selection, in order to fast track the FS exit from Central Ave?
Didn't think that city was involved with FS, and don't think that there is much of a
relationship between the two.

Still-- Admin had a large hand in getting us into the current Section 8
demographics, and now wants it all to magically disappear. It will be here
for quite a while longer, and migrating back to the formerly diwntown area.

Where else can they go for services?

Is it really up to city hall?

FS is supposed to be a non profit.  The city didn't pick their current location.

Middletown's bus service is emblematic of the federal government waste that goes on throughout this country.  No one, including our city, does anything about it because its' "free money".

I can understand a bus services for a city the size of Dayton and Cincinnati, but not Middletown. Every time I pass these buses I am lucky to see maybe 1 to 5 people on it. If anything, I would prefer a County ran bus system and have it connect to the Dayton RTA and the Cincinnati Metro. That would make more sense than Middletown running there own bus system.

I think this would be a better location also.
The bus stop is just across the street in front of Denny Lumber.
City Hall just doesn't seem to understand that many of the poor people that need these services do not have cars.

Maybe so--maybe not Mtown
The proposed location has a dock and parking, and a location centralized for the needy FS patrons
Far enough away from the "arts"
Maybe eligible for one of those "downtown grants"?
Still another huge move, which means a huge expense.
Another f'n mess imo

Mr.Maxwell could have done better, though he has little to work with, when compared to the incredible demand for help in this town(thanx 2 our city admin's long-term strategy to ramp up Section 8).

Family Services was forced out of their former convenient location under TVM, and into a very inconvenient current location.

Mismanaging tax money??
Look no further than decades of expenditures in the former downtown area, and the vacant structures littering the area. "Mothballing" worthless and expensive properties, mostly in the former downtown area. Paying $85,000 for the former Hobby House/Cabinet Shop--$300,000 for the former Office Outfitters property. The Manchester/Sonshine/bank building/Masonic Temple + $100,000+ of "forgiven" loans and debt. 2nd round of storefront improvements to buildings that haven't had a tenant since the first round of improvements(or any interior improvements). The hundre\ds of thousands of $$ plus municipal hours expended in two rounds(over a decade) in failed projects with Duncan Oil.[/

FS is way below on my "outrage scale"
more disappointment DIV]

Recent robberies this week @ UDF and Speedway?
If so--why no press?

Well well Middletown29

Where is your outrage?
How many times does City Hall get away with wasting and mismanaging our tax money?

Interesting
Good Central location, and a windfall for Ms.Gibson
So--how does this solve the lawsuit/debt issue?
Vacating the property?
Oh boy--assuming ownership of the current location?

Same FS leadership?

When you say "family services" are you talking about people that collect welfare?

Sad--I like mr. Maxwell
Enjoyed helping him with storage when I could do so

So---how will his base of needy be taken care of?
Send them to Hamilton?

The new building was a forced move and never a good fit
Plus an expensive re-do

I assume that we only take care of the property owners in the former downtown
area, and no worries about the needy until they migrate back to the
Former Central Ave location area and have to resort to theft against local
merchants.

Will the local churches, food banks and shelters be able to absorb the influx
if it happens?

We have a large # of needy in this community.
We can't just wish them away or forget that they exist

Jmo

Mismanagement of funds intended for those in need is still mismanagement.

Fair enough
I stand corrected

I served on the MCF board and finance committee.
Passed on the FS board unfortunately
When I started, MCF did a lot of granting to the needy and scholarships.

I have worked smoothly and successfully with the Family Services leadership and staff.
It is a very busy place--they go through an amazing amount of food(surprise!)
They work hard to provide services to the needy, and do it mostly with volunteers.
No amount of funding can cover their daily requests for assistance.
Spend a little time down there during the last 2 weeks of the month

Our city govt spanned decades bringing in the poor and poverty, particularly a few years ago.
Cash cow for staff and landlords in on the program
Long-term result is our current local economy and demographics
We need quality Family Services AND our local health board/clinic now more than ever

Don't want FS conveniently in the empty former downtown area, and out of their new(very old) space--
so-- out in empty commercial space on the east end?
