AK Steel to Build New World-Class
Research and Innovation Center On February 23, 2015, AK Steel announced plans to construct a new, world-class Research and Innovation Center in Middletown, Ohio. This $36 million investment underscores AK Steel’s strong commitment to the future of steelmaking in America, and to our company’s continued industry leadership as a technical innovator in the steel business. • Customer-Focused. The new Research and Innovation Center will be customer-focused, providing advanced technical support to our valued customers, as well as developing new and improved steel products for a number of our markets. • Enhanced Capabilities. The new Research and Innovation Center will enhance AK Steel’s capabilities to bring new products to the market-place, including: - Next-generation Advanced High Strength Steels to help automotive customers design lighter, more fuel-efficient vehicles that maintain superior strength and safety performance; - High efficiency Electrical Steels that will help the nation’s electricity grid become more energy-efficient; and - New Stainless Steels that offer superior corrosion resistance for a wide variety of applications. • Strategically Located. The new research center will be constructed in the Cincinnati – Dayton growth corridor along Interstate 75, which is near our Middletown Works and West Chester Headquarters. • Project Details. 120,000 square foot building; estimated project investment – $36 million; groundbreaking late spring or early summer of 2015. • Jobs. The 75 Researchers, Scientists and Engineers currently working at our existing Research building will transfer to the new building when completed. We expect to add 15 new full-time jobs by the end of 2018. Will be located on the west side of Union Road North of Atrium Good news for Middletown |

A couple of comments about AK Research.
Got a neighbor who worked for AK Research for over 20 years. His last day with them was more than 4 years ago. He never has recovered from the hit he took as to salary level on his jobs since then. Research was around 340 at one time back then, but has been severely cut to the 75 reported here. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the yellow research building go with the rest of the General Office site over on Curtis? Good news seeing some more development out by the hospital as was originally planned. 75 research salary jobs plus 15 more in the future can only be a good thing. Middletown needs jobs in the technology category rather than saturating the city with service jobs. Now, if we can just keep those folks in Middletown rather than to\hem commuting to West Chester and Springboro to live. |

I'm so proud of my hometown and what it has become. Recall 'em all. Let's start over.

That is good news, glad to see it stay in the city, and glad to see the city offer a competitive incentive package for the site.
