7 Key tips to survive a personal computer disaster (AKA:Disaster Recovery)
Loosing all of your files on your computers hard drive is a disaster 
that can 
be easily avoided if you follow these seven simple steps. 

1. Realizing this is a real danger
Did you know every year almost half of all computer users loose  irreplaceable files and that almost 300,000 laptops are stolen annually.  

2. Back up your files in a place off site
The easiest way to avoid loosing irreplaceable files is to back them up on 
CDs, DVDs, and external hard drives, but what good would this be if a thief 
steal's both because they are both stored in the same location. Always store 
your back up files somewhere safe and away from thieves and natural disasters.

3. Find a way to backup files automatically
Nothing is more tedious than having to save numerous files every week on a 
backup drive. the result is in most cases people do not backup everything and 
only backup important files here and there.

4. Do not settle with a partial backup solution
Do not settle for a small backup drive that is unprotected and will need to 
be replaced with a bigger drive down the road, always shoot for a complete backup on the largest media you can find. Keep in mind windows itself can become correct, you might need to recover windows may need to be recovered in addition to your data.

5. In the event you do loose your files, make sure you have a quick backup 
system in place
Restoring files should not be a tedious process that is lengthy and confusing

6. Always protect your files
There is no point of backing up your files if some hacker can gain access to 
your data. So always make sure to add a security measure to protect your files.

	Nice Post. With the economy getting tighter I think many small businesses will be forced to become more tech savy, especially if they have no existing I.T. staff. Those companies that do have an I.T. staff will most likely continue to look for ways to reduce their costs, or effectively add to their technical capabilities, by outsourcing some tech labor to those companies that specialize in computer service.

	Great Post - Great Points - Don't forget that if disaster strikes, you can get up and running fast with a plan that includes renting equipment if you need a temporary fix.

	I can not tell you how many time I have had to tell someone their HDD is crashed only to next ask them if they have a backup, the answer is almost always NO.

	We used t have an employee who would tell people "I guess the data was not really that important if you did not even bother to back it up" needless to say the clients did not find it amusing.
