Later this year, come rain or snow, we can expect to see Miss Judy and City Council members riding bikes to and from work on the much talked about Great Miami Bicycle Path!! What a sight for sore eyes that will be!! Think of the dollars that will be saved undertaking this project instead of lowering taxpayer-funded utility costs via energy-saving retrofits at City of Middletown buildings?? |

Yessiree Bob!!! The point that Ms. Gilleland and the city council seem unable to grasp (besides the fact that federal tax money STILL comes out of the taxpayers' pockets) is that if this money would have been used for more efficient pumps, or more efficient heating/cooling units, or energy saving windows is that IN ANY OF THOSE CASES, THE CITY OF MIDDLETOWN WOULD HAVE REALIZED A COUNTINUING SAVINGS IN ENERGY COSTS OVER THE LIFE OF THE INVESTMENT!!!
With a bike path, the city will be exposed to ADDED MAINTENANCE COSTS!!!
Continued SAVINGS versus continued added COSTS. It SEEMS like a simple concept, why can't our City Manager and city Council grasp it???

Why would council care WHERE the money comes from as long as it keeps coming ? Council is having fun and seems like everyone is trying to ruin their fun.

Mike I don't think added Maintenance cost are much of an issue for Middletown when it comes to these matters, just look at the roads. The fact they need major maintenance doesn't seem to have been a priority for Middletown over the last 20-25 years.

Disaster Recover Plan, that's what it is. Just like large companies have their compuetr systems backed up, so does Middletown with the bike path. Dave Duritsh, city engineer, has done a study and found within five years the roads in middletown will crumble. So, the bike path is the backup, the alternative, to driving on an unpassable road system by taking a bike to and from work.
The city of Middletown spends like drunk sailors, no thought or consideration what the need or justification to be, just spend all they can get their hands on, especially when its someone else's money. And of course, its always nice to show the power those in the city have by having $60Kk to throw at a consulting firm. This is a qulaity of life issue? One would put their l;ife in danger riding a bike to get to the path, hitting massive pot holes before hitting smooth sailing. But, upscale home buyers want bike paths (they read about this in Boulder, Colorado) but buyers also like swimming pool amenities. Oh, the good ol days. And I used to think Ron Olson wasn't good. What a gem he was compared to the current leadership. And to think how much traffic will be flowing through Middletown when the bullet train arrrives (sarcastically said- Hamilton will win that) with those riding the train with their bikes tucked on top of the train. The street sweeper was making its round today. They should retrofit it with a driver controlled bottle of weed killer, or put weed spray on the bristles. The bike path, a quality of life issue, while weeds dominat the streets, water is drained from the public pool, but flows freely at Weatherwax keeping the greens and fairways nice, and downtown has the look and feel of "Goldsville." |

Pac: At first, I was going to agree with you on this point. But after pondering the issue for a few moments, I thought better of it. Only we commoners, the unwashed masses, complain about the streets. The streets are not that much of a concern to the elite. Their claims for blown tires or wrecked front ends probably sail right by their cronies at city hall. But just wait until some of their $5,000.00 bikes get ruined. Then the lack of maintenance of the bike paths will become a real priority!!! |

Hahahaha the old street sweeper passed my driveway this morning as it headed down to that neighborhood with taller weeds in the roadway than the gardens. I wanted to run and give him my weed eater so he could trim the weeds and sweep them up at the same time.

Acually, when the bike path is completed, it will be the smoothest road surface in the city.
As Accuro mentioned, riding your bike TO the path will be extremely dangerous sincethe infrastructure still will remain untouched, as a penalty for failing to approve road improvement taxes.
Yes--I can't wait to see our Council members biking together over the whole trail within our fine city. Next police protection/surveillance cameras will follow to protect the five riders daily.
A seldom-used bike path is a major quality of life issue?

What are you guys dreaming you don't ride your bike to the Bike Path you put it in you SUV and drive your bike there, then you ride you bike and then load it back into your SUV and drive back home.

Is it possible that Middletown Pride in Action will consider the comments of you Pacman plus you Mike? Maybe they could form a voluntary Citywide "Weed Whacker Patrol" to remove unsightly vegetative growth from our streets and vacant houses?
Miss Vivian, is this a remedy to the problem property adjacent to your home that the City cannot or will not take care of?
Maybe we should not place too many demands on our cash-strapped City government? After paying for the Great Miami Bike Path, they tell us that there's only a few sheckels left in the coffers??
