I asked Middletown City Schools Superintendent Greg Rasmussen if there were there any new plans to beef up security at the schools. He replied, "...in light of the tragic event in Connecticut, MCSD, along with many other public facilities, is reviewing plans/procedures related to a variety of crisis situations. We are fortunate to have well-trained School Resource Officers and have a good working relationship with the Middletown Police Department. However, when you talk about school safety, you can not take anything for granted so we are meeting with them today to review both school and city procedures."
Beagle: Do we have a lockdown drill in place? If so, how often is it practiced?
Rasmussen: Schools do at least one safety related drill each month (fire, tornado or lock down/crisis). So normally, they will have several "lock down" type drills each school year.
