The latest group to promote Middletown’s downtown, known as Downtown Middletown Inc., has hired Patrick Kay to fill the first paid position that focuses exclusively on pulling together downtown activities to promote economic traffic.

Kay has experience with implementing programs to promote city growth. In Maryland he worked as director of Brunswick Main Street, and prior to this project he worked as chair of the economic restructuring committee of The Main Street Program in Anderson, South Carolina. Kay’s next restructuring project is establishing a Main Street Program here in Middletown.

Currently Kay is conducting research, forming committees and establishing a foundation for the program. He assures Middletonians, however, that he does not plan to develop a program and simply demand that the city follows it. Kay says that he intends to work toward making the residents’ idea of downtown a reality.
