Junichi Shishito has traveled to Middletown over the years with Japanese students and elected leaders. Marilyn Adams who is the Sister Cities Coordinator is currently helping to organize the courtesy call with Middletown officials. Middletown and Furukawa/Osaki City have been sister cities since 1991.
There are no elected leaders from Japan in the contingent. Shishito will be delivering a letter to Mulligan from his Japanese counterpart which is the Honorable Mayor Yasushi Ito. In Mulligan’s letter back to Ito will not the economic problems are global making his support of this very worthwhile program even more significant. Middletown officials have only visited Furukawa/Osaki City once the 18-year relationship. Both cities should be planning to celebrate the 20th anniversary of becoming sister cities in 2011.
