Miami University Middletown’s Verity Traditions will highlight Carnaval at its Cinco de Mayo Celebration from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 2 at Verity Lodge. Refreshments will be provided by local restaurant and Mexican store, Veracruz.
Participants will enjoy a tour through Carnaval with Dr. Thomas Garcia, looking at the history, costumes, music and dance of this holiday. Garcia is an associate professor of ethnomusicology and Latin American Studies at Miami University. He is an active solo and chamber music performer, specializing in Brazilian music and had performed throughout the United States and Brazil.

A thought-provoking discussion by The Thought Sherpas (May 14, 6 p.m.) and a panel on letters home during World War II entitled Dear Mom & Dad (June 5, 12 p.m.) will be Verity Traditions’ next programs.
