Whether you’re looking for the thrill of a roller coaster or the chill of a scare by a ghoul, Kings Island has what you’re after this Halloween.
Kings Island offers three different events this Halloween: Trick-Or-Treat with the Dinosaurs, Howl-O-Palooza, and of course, the Halloween Haunt.
Additionally, more than 20 rides will be open during the Halloween Haunt, including all of the park’s signature roller coasters like Diamondback, the Vortex, and the Beast.
For an additional $5, park visitors can trick-or-treat with Kings Island’s many dinosaur characters, many who will be dressed up for the Halloween season. Trick-or-treat with the dinosaurs is open on September 23, September 29 and every Saturday and Sunday in October from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. In addition, on September 23, all admission charges will be donated to A Kid Again, a charity that provides support for children with serious diseases.
Kings Island has more entertainment for kids in addition to Trick-or-Treat with the Dinosaurs; the park offers Howl-O-Palooza in Soak City, Kings Island’s waterpark. This event offers a variety of family-friendly activities including a petting zoo, pony rides, hay bale mazes, and visits from the Peanuts gang and other Halloween-themed costumed characters. This event will be on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Finally, for mature audiences, Kings Island offers Halloween Haunt: Kings Island's “veritable playground of terror” in the words of Kings Island spokesman Don Helbig. Halloween Haunt will feature 12 terrifying mazes, four different outdoor fear zones, and over 500 creatures of the night that will terrorize passer-bys.
“The fear zones really enhance the experience for everyone,” Helbig said. “Even if you don’t want to go through mazes you still have to take part. Once you’re in the gates, you’re in here for good.”
A new wax museum horror maze will also be featured this year, Madame Fatal’s Cavern of Terror. The maze also has a buffet in which tickets can be purchased online.
The Hot Blooded Show, called “Kings Island’s version of the Rocky Horror Picture Show” by Helbig, features a live mash-up of vampire lore and hard rockin’ music and has gained a strong cult following. This will be the fourth year for this show.
Helbig said the best price for admission tickets can be found online at www.visitkingsisland.com/haunt2012. Online tickets are $25.99 for Fridays; $31.99 for Saturdays and Sundays. At the gate tickets cost $38.99 for Fridays and $54.99 for Saturdays and Sundays. The park is closed Sept. 22 during the day but will open at 7 p.m. for Halloween Haunt.
