In the second edition of "Cities Ranked & Rated," the Cincinnati-Middletown metropolitan area ranked as the 38th most attractive area to live out of 373 metropolitan areas nationwide, up from 92nd in the 2004 edition. Median house pricing in the Middletown area is around $149,100, compared to $220,000 nationally. Our city's arts and cultural opportunities, as well as access to media centers and libraries also rank about the national average. However, the area unemployment rate was slightly above national average and crime has gone up. Mayor Schiavone attributes the rise in crime as a result of public safety budget cuts, and adds that city council is considering placing an income tax increase on the November ballot to help cover costs. |
