Middletown is now 5-0 and 2-0 in the GMC, something that hasn't happened in over a decade according to Coach Ronai.

Recent headlines from Middletown Journal's, Skip Weaver tell the story:

Middies dominate Fl. State Champs
Middletown Journal, OH - Dec 28, 2008
Middies down defending Florida State Champs with a 47-36 victory. The loss was the first of the year for the number two ranked and defending Florida Division 6A state champions. The Middies will have Sunday off before playing the Gonzaga (Va.) High School team on Monday in the tournament semifinals.

This year, returning for the Middies are three senior starters: guard Allen Roberts (6-foot-3), wing Tony Peters (6-4) and forward Bill Edwards (6-7).
Also returning from last season are sophomore forward Anthony Strouthers (6-4), senior guard Meshach Jackson (5-11), senior wing Shadrach Jackson (6-2) and senior wing Terell Ramsey (6-1). The plus to the team is a new sophomore center Kirby Wright (6-8), from Lakota East.

Middletown will now head south to compete in the Jr. Orange Bowl Classic Dec. 27-30 in Miami, Fla.

Major accomplishment to knock off the powerful Fla.team on their home turf, and next out Monday to face Gonzaga(NJ), the #4 rated team in the nation.

Very little mention of the Saturday win in the Sunday MJ, instead focusing on Edgeville and Madison games.I assumed details would be forthcoming either online or in the Monday MJ

Well--no further Middie recap, and NO MENTION at all of 2nite's feature game. Why? Is this not by far the most important hoops game of the year so far?

What is going on here?
The regionalization of our local newspaper is making the MJ non-essential reading. The articles are the same as in the Dayton Daily News. Why sell both newspapers, and why buy bothe newspapers? Locals want local news, and use other venues to keep up on issues outside the immediate area.

As a local businessman using the MJ to advertise my business, I attract only locals, and have no draw from outside the city limits. If this newspaper is now regional in emphasis, my ad $$ spent is seriously being diluted.

I just left Miami Dade College after watching Middletown beat Gonzaga. Allen Roberts played outstanding with 20pts holding Gonzaga's guard who has committed to Duke to just 10 pts. Pics have been taken and sent up north to include the Journal but according to the Miami Photographer, the Journal refuses to use them. Typical Journal. Anyway, a great win and an exciting game.

There is one problem, that I can't understand. The way that they use there players there. They have a future all american five star blue chip player, in Anthony Strother 6'5. He can do mostly anything on the court that you ask him to do. He has nice range and can dominate in the post. That's not it, he has that lock down defense that wins games. He carry a 4.0 GPA and made a 31 on his act, which every school in the nation should look for in a student athlete. As a matter of fact just to sum it up, MULTI-DIMEMSIONAL. Also Kirby Wright is a great athlete. For all you college recruits out there make it a must that you watch them boys out there this year 09-10 season. There will be a show to watch this year. GUARANTEED! Remember this, they are juniors this year. Coach give them the ball and let them get loose.
