Supporters levy campaigns in Butler County hope voters will approve proposed tax initiatives today so a Plan B — which may include going back to the ballot — won’t have to be implemented. The Monroe City School District has already approved language for a November levy, its Plan B, should today’s initiative fail. If any levy fails, and an entity wishes to try again in November, it must be approved and submitted to the board of elections by 4 p.m. Wednesday. That doesn’t leave much time for decision making following today’s election, the outcomes of which could result in cuts to services and jobs for some. Nearly 50,000 registered voters in Butler and Warren counties will be asked to support the four levies in today’s special election, but election officials in both counties forecast only a fraction of those casting a vote. There will be 15 poll locations open today for Butler County voters in Middletown, Monroe and Ross Twp. and 10 polls open in Warren County for Franklin, which includes one each in Middletown and Monroe. |

Pitman's article.....
"Supporters levy campaigns in Butler County hope voters will approve proposed tax initiatives today so a Plan B — which may include going back to the ballot — won’t have to be implemented. The Monroe City School District has already approved language for a November levy, its Plan B, should today’s initiative fail. If any levy fails, and an entity wishes to try again in November", AND THIS IS WHY THERE NEEDS TO BE SOME REVAMPING IN THE ELECTION PROCESS PREVENTING SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND CITIES FROM RETURNING TO THE VOTER MULTIPLE TIMES IN A CALENDAR YEAR. IMO, THEY SHOULD HAVE ONE SHOT AT PASSAGE IN A YEAR'S TIME. IF THEY LOSE IN AUGUST, THEY SHOULDN'T BE ALLOWED TO PLACE IT BEFORE THE VOTERS UNTIL JANUARY OF THE NEXT YEAR AT THE EARLIEST. THEY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO KEEP HAMMERING AWAY AT THE VOTERS UNTIL THE VOTERS GET SO SICK OF THEIR PLEAS THEY PASS IT JUST TO SHUT THEM UP. A RESIDUAL TO MULTIPLE TRIES AT THE BALLOT BOX IS THAT ON SPECIAL ELECTIONS, CITIES LIKE MIDDLETOWN, WHO HAVE PRECIOUS LITTLE MONEY AS IT IS (OR SO THEY SAY), SHOULDN'T BE WASTING IT ON THIS TYPE OF ACTIVITY WHEN THE PEOPLE HAVE ALREADY SAID NO THE FIRST TIME. JMO BY THE WAY, MR. PITMAN. EVER THOUGHT ABOUT TRYING SOME JOURNALISM THAT REFLECTS BOTH SIDES OF AN ISSUE? THE JOURNAL HAS A BAD HABIT OF REPORTING MOSTLY ONE-SIDED EVENTS IN THIS TOWN. TOO LATE NOW, BUT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE FOR YOU AND YOUR JOURNAL BUDDIES TO HAVE INTERVIEWED PEOPLE OPPOSED TO THE SAFETY AND SENIORS BALLOT INITIATIVES TOO. STOP LISTENING ONLY TO THE PEOPLE IN THE CITY BUILDING AND START RECOGNIZING THE SILENT MAJORITY LIVING HERE. |
