Middies to remember legend
Walker, 40th anniversary of victory No. 600 to be celebrated tonight.

By Rick Cassano
Staff Writer
By all accounts, it was very hot.
That wasn’t unusual in the Garfield High School gymnasium. It could become a sweatbox when packed, and it isn’t hard to picture, even 40 years later.
The date was Dec. 10, 1971. The Griffins were hosts that Friday night. Middletown was on the way, and that was big enough. But this was even bigger.
Legendary Middies coach Paul Walker had already become the winningest coach in Ohio prep history. Walker had 599 victories and was coming to Hamilton.
