With the sudden passing of city council member Jim Armbruster rumors are swirling as to whom might fill the now vacant first ward city council seat. In the November 2009 election the incumbent Armbruster beat out first ward resident Gary Lee Barge, many think Mr. Barge may once again try to obtain the first ward seat. For those not familiar with Mr. Barge and his stance on some issues that are concerns in Middletown, here is an interview that Mr. Barge gave to MiddletownUSA.com during the campaign of 2009. Marconi is in the wrong ward.
How about Spider John or Mike Presta?

I stand corrected. Mike Presta would be a good man.

Who ever it is, you can be sure they will be a "Team" player. I think that will work against Mr Barge, sadly.
The powers at be what no part of anyone not on board with the current City Administration. I think Gary would serve us well myself. |

Without meaning any disrespect to the Armbruster family, the question shouldn't be who will replace, but how will Council choose to replacement
Mr. Armbruster was elected to serve the First Ward, but haven't wards effectively been eliminated with the last charter initiative? Or does that only take place with the next election. Could the pick someone outside of Ward 1? I am sure Mr Landen will have an opinion on this ;0) |

That Presta fellow would be a good addition making decisions for the city if he would just learn to go along with the program. Too many questions making too many prominent people "uneasy" and feeling like they are "on the bubble". He needs to quit researching everything so thoroughly and needs to back off being so inquisitive.
Mr. Spider would have an "easier time of it" as he is able to conform to the situation and presents himself well to many different philosophies. Very diversified in his approach. He could be an MMF'er, a regular citizen or a critical thorn in the administrations side. He is multi-faceted in his opinions. Both would be excellent reps for the 1st Ward. |

sure Vet
Spider could be any/all that you mentioned(maybe simultaneously!), especially one of those MFers you keep talking about.
Or are we all BFers now(Bright Futures)?
Spiderjohn will not be joining Council--he has enough confrontation in his life, and probably would never be approved by the current dark side members.
Besides, I like having 6 members(requiring a 4-2 clear majority to pass anything) because I'm not sure that we want this Council to pass much legislation.

The following is copied and pasted exactly from Article II, § 3 of the Middletown City Charter:
Mr. Armbruster was duly elected to serve as THE Council Member from WARD 1 for a defined FOUR-YEAR term ending December 31, 2013. The abolition of “Ward representation” does NOT take effect until January 1, 2014. (Or, not at all if a referendum repealing that amendment to the charter is passed before that date.) The temporary, appointed Ward 1 council person MUST be a “qualified elector” and a Ward 1 resident (and must have been one for a period of not less than one year.) Anyone choosing to be a candidate for this Ward 1 seat in “the next regular election” this coming November 2, 2010, must likewise be a qualified elector and a Ward 1 resident for at least one year. Our charter is clear on this issue. Any attempt by any elected or appointed city official(s) to interpret the above otherwise would make them guilty of GROSS MALFEASANCE in office, and I guarantee you they will be the defendant in a legal action of some sort, even if I have to go it alone!!! |
