Robert D. Sommers, CEO of Butler Technology Career and Development Schools is one of 3 who want the job vacated by Dr. Steve Price. Also interested is Lloyd D. Martin, superintendent of Mansfield City Schools and Greg Rasmussen, assistant superintendent of Wichita Public Schools in Wichita, Kan.
District officials will host a “Meet the Candidates Night - Middletown Superintendent of Schools” starting at 5 p.m. Jan. 7 at Middletown High School, according to Middletown Communication Director Debbie Alberico. The Middletown School district had spent $25,360 on the superintendent search, according to Lisa Fahncke, district treasurer. |

If you read some of the opinions on the blogs about these individuals, you get a 50/50 breakout- good/bad on both Martin and Sommers. Some Mansfield people thought Martin did a good job-some would be glad to see him go. Same with Sommers at Butler Tech. Difficult to get a read on these guys. Still don't know anything about Rasmussen from Wichita. Sommers was Price's room mate? Let's hope it didn't rub off.

I have heard good and bad things about Dr. Sommers. I will reserve my opinion until after he starts doing things in Middletown.
He just retired from Butler Tech so he is a double dipper. |

No Person they hire will do anything any different from the past UNTIL they hire someone NOT an Education Administration Professional.
Situations like Middletown need a Teddy Roosevelt approach, something you will never see a Education Professional do. |

I would support a decision to go with Dr. Sommers. I believe he did a good job at Butler Tech and he looks at running schools like running a business. He called himself the CEO at BT. So you can tell right away that he has a businessman's point of view from a job title perspective.
I would be interested to see what he would do with Middletown Schools. |
