CITY COUNCIL WARD 1 CANDIDATES QUESTIONS: JIM ARMBRUSTER & GARY BARGE - CITY'S "DOLLAR HOME" PROGRAM
Question 1: What do you know about the City's "Dollar Home" program of purchasing, rehabilitating and re-selling FHA foreclosed homes with HUD funds that was initiated in early 2006?
Question 2: Of the 10 homes deeded to the City by FHA, there's one "REHABBED" house at 1018 Hughes in Ward 1 that's currently for sale at $65,000. Were you aware that an amount somewhat greater than $65,000 in HUD funds were spent for improvements (??) and that a sizable amount of monies have been doled out for property taxes, insurance and maintenance since 2006?
Question 3: Were either of you previously informed of this and other related HUD problems by current and past City staff at a meeting at the Barbecue Junction Restaurant last summer?

As has been discussed before, an investigation from the state level and the federal level needs to occur as to HUD and CDBG money spent by this city. Audits have been made of the money spent by the city, but there is a feeling that the audits were whitewashed and questionable issues swept under the rug by the state and federal auditors. We need another follow-up audit with people who will conduct the audits correctly without "conveniently" looking the other way. Incriminating evidence has been sent, but apparently not used. Correct me if that's wrong, Smokey.
