With all this snow that has been falling this year, does anyone know how badly the snow removal budget has been hit? Will the city start taking away from the Road Improvement Fund?

Who knows? But the public works department has done an outstanding job of keeping the roads plowed and salted this winter.

They have been doing an okay job in my neighborhood, however I cringe every time I see the plow in use because I see more and more potholes being created by them . Just drive drive down Boylston, then turn right onto Dickens, and you will see what I mean. The roads are actually smoother with snow on them.

The city has done an outstanding job....outstanding.
I was shoveling a few weeks ago and the driver kindly moved the pile off my end of driveway (asphalt). |

But as for response time on clearing the roads they have been great. I just wish people would move there cars off the street when it snows, so more of the roads get cleared.

While I compliment the work by the drivers (snow removal), this winter and others, reflect the mindless thought process since 1986, of not putting funds into street repair. You cannot ,live in Ohio, with the horrible winters that can be brutal, and not set aside funds for road repair post winter. You just cannot. The snow and 0 degree weather has revealed the folly of this inaction since 1986.

What else is new. And still the present "powers that be" still haven't learned from the past. Their blinders get bigger every year.

On the flip side of this positive discussion, concerning the job the Middletown public works folks did, I direct your attention to the streets in the Oaks and the surrounding streets adjacent to the Oaks. (Haven't been over to Manchester Manor as yet) Not necessarily the best job one could offer. You be the judge. I also direct your attention to the condition of Manchester Rd. JUST OUTSIDE THE CITY LIMITS up to Rt. 25 versus Manchester INSIDE the city limits. Seems to be a difference in effort at this location. I haven't seen the road conditions in other parts of the city.
The importance and prioritization of the condition of the roads? Little to no effort since the 80's. The concentration is on the downtown while 95% of the city is neglected. The theme of this current administration........Ignoring basic issues while focusing on items of secondary importance. They just flat out don't know how to evaluate the city's situation and focus on the basics.....or, worse yet, understand, but don't see a need to place the basics as a number one priority. Council hasn't been in tune with the city's real needs for decades......and it will continue until the voters clean house and sit competent people who will hire equally competent people to occupy the city building. |

Ok I now retract my previous statement. This past Saturday and Sunday the salt trucks did not even bother to plow our streets except for the main ones. Granted I did not expect to have salt to be applied, at least they could have drive down our side streets and at least plow the snow so it could melt, instead we now have a sheet of ice on our road. Thanks for half assing it again Middletown. Way to save the tax payers money.
