The Middletown City School District is expected to see a reduction in state funding for next year. The reduction could be up to $5 million. The impact of the 20% reduction to the operating budget could cause a reduction in services and programs offered in the schools.
Superintendent Greg Rasmussen, and Treasurer Lisa Fahncke, are seeking opinions from the district staff and community. Three public workshops which are designed to generate discussion and get feedback, are being held at different times in three different locations. -Thursday, January 6, 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM at Middletown High School (media center) -Thursday, January 13, 6:30 - 8:00 PM at Rosa Parks (media center) -Thursday, January 27, 10 AM - 11:30 AM at Miami University Middletown Johnston Hall Participants at the Budget Priority Workshop will be asked to prioritize their ideas about what Middletown Schools should be doing, or not be doing. The feedback garnered from all of the Budget Priority Workshops, including staff workshops, and departmental budget committee reviews, will be used to design a new budget for the next school year. |

Umm, let me predict what someone will soon say. "One idea might be if we cut the cost of the union salaries and benefits throughout the state!"

The more I think about MCSD asking the community for their input the more of a sham it appears. It's hard to take a district seriously when they employ someone for $98k to call parents on snow days and send out emails to the town. I've known people in the communications field and the sense I get is that they make nowhere near $98k.
Until Mr. Rasmussen and the board get serious about some of the unnecessary or overpaid union-lifers, they aren't getting my support.

Almost Neil.....beside doing what you mentioned, there is a need to cut non-union admin. salaries and also eliminate multiple assist. principals in the schools. Need to cut the $98,000 salary of Alberico as school "spokesperson". The Super can do the press releases and responses just as effectively as she can. How about the high salary of the Director of Learning or Curriculum or what ever the slot is called? Perhaps an outside source will do that cheaper than the current salary and bennies package. Time to double up on duties in many areas perhaps. How about contracting out the cleaning of the school buildings while we're at it. What about contracting out the secretary duties also? Do we have someone employed by the school district that handles the Human Resources duties? Might be cheaper to hire an outside contractor to do that too. All of this would save the high salaries as well as the benefit package costs and the retirement costs in handling the program. So far so good with contracting with Rumpke and eliminating the city garbage trucks/personnel, right?
(This would apply to the city building also) |
