I found an interesting article about the history of Middletown's steel manufacturing and how Tytus paper company played a role in the success of what was then The American Rolling Mill Company. 

George M. Verity, the man credited as the founder of the American Rolling Mill Company, was asked to take a huge risk based on the idea of a man born with a manufacturing pedigree, an English Literature degree and no engineering education.  History will tell that it was a risk with a huge payoff!

thanks for the link Vivian - are you aware that your text is from one of George Crout's Master's thesis? He was awarded two from Miami University - both in history.

did you ever get to meet him?  I used to sit and talk with him at his cottage at Mt. Pleasant in Monroe. The back room was full of file cabinets, stacks of paper and books. he told me to keep my day job. good advice.
