Veterans, Families and Friends of Middletown Cemetery

As I stood at the Middletown Cemetery on Memorial Day, the Honor Guard playing taps, tears rolled down my cheeks and a deep sadness filled my heart for those buried at the Middletown Cemetery. Two hundred and thirty-three known veterans of the Revolutionary War through the Viet Nam
War are buried at this cemetery.

Four years ago when I walked into the Middletown Cemetery, the family plot of Daniel Doty, founder of Middletown, was covered in weeds and broken family stones. It is now the Doty Rose Garden.

Behind the Doty family plot is the family plot of, David Heaton, Revolutionary War veteran and founder of the
First Baptist Church
. His tombstone is broken and his wifes stone is on the ground.

Just behind the Heaton plot you will find the family plot of Rev. James S. Grimes, Revolutionary War veteran and founder of the
Methodist Church. His stone is leaning and all the other family stones are<

It is sad to hear about the lack of thoughtfulness regarding our war heros.

The Middletown Cemetery is an amazing place and worth a visit and a donation from anyone who cares about this city and our past.

Does the Middletown Cemetery Committee have an address you could give out or can you give us us more specifics about how we can make a donation?
