I SEE the Pendleton Art Center is claiming to have 53 Artists on site. Has anyone been to the Pendleton Arts Center? I may have to go down and SEE for myself. PACMAN

Pacman It is my understanding that some of the spaces are being leased by more than one artist. What I would like to know is the total amount of sales since they have opened their doors.

Not sure privated people leasing spaces would release that number. But I drove by there the other day and there were actual people milling about.
Clearly this is one small step for man in Middletown. Now if we can get Cincinnati State to take over we could get a giant leap for mankind.

Maybe you witnessed the MALACHI group, Mr.B, who was holding a meeting downstairs.
Or some other group holding a meeting. Seems to have become more of a meeting facility than an art facility. I patronize the inside deli because I support local business people who support my business. Usually I am the only person at the deli(I go between noon and 1pm), and walk the building. I have never seen one studio open at any time, or anyone working inside any of them.
More tax $$ wasted in an area that has been seriously over-emphasized and over-compensated to the point that the wealthy slumlords down there expect no less. We have music shows weekly to promote the area, yet the VERY few businesses operating are locked up tight. I just don't get it.
I would also like to see REAL PAC sales #s, actual jobs created, and tax revenues generated from the taxpayer-subsidized project. Come on city--quit jacking us around and tell the truth for once.
We need leadership that is inclusive, frugal, open and responsible.
Instead we have a Council with a member in mid-term dumping the ward he promised to serve, in order to steal an at-large seat and hand-pick a ward replacement(denying the voters of the right to choose their own representation). We have a mayor bent on polarization, demonizing a struggling new Councilmember, and when trumpeting his "accomplishments", tells locals who don't like his direction of this city to "pack up and get out of town".
I honestly feel knowledgeable and qualified to voice my opinion on any issue and policy in this city without threat or denegration from a short-term politician with a very poor track record.
End of rant

spiderjohn....after reading your last few "rants", I have to wonder why you stay in Middletown. Middletown has its issues, no doubt, however "ranting" about it does no good and just seems to cause your blood pressure to rise.
Do something about your rant or move on would you?

Middletown29,
You take the cake for poor taste and hypocrisy. Do you really have the brains to wonder why someone like SpiderJohn stays in Middletown? When you have invested and have provided jobs in this city like he and his family have for many decades then we might listen to your rantings. Until then, you seem to have a blood pressure problem of your own that needs attention. SpiderJohn is the one citizen who has done many things about his rants (which he is entitled to as a citizen and an American) in a real way and he is the last one who should move on. You, on the other hand should lead the parade down to the city building and learn something about this city and its corruption. You ought to be ashamed of your self to write such dribble about one of our finest citizens.

Middletown 29 I believe that every tax paying citizen in Middletown should be ranting and raving and marching on City Hall about what is going on in this town.

Easy answer M29
Because I have lived here for my entire life.
Childhood, school years, worker/business owner, family man and concerned citizen.
Love my home, it's people and the area.
So much that I can't stand what our elected officials, their staff and enablers have brought on everyone.
Instead of uniting the entire community and making our city whole with jobs related to our skills and beyond + producing a diverse retail/service environment necessary to create a better quality of life in order to retain our best/brightest plus draw new young families, those in control have chosen to increase poverty and decrease public safety. To ignore the entire community to once again concentrate on the terminally ill area formerly known as "downtown"(the black hole of our tax $$). To spend huge money on a seldom used poorly planned bike path instead of keeping Sunset Pool. To rush into expensive building purchases with no REAL plan for usage and very costly maintenance(guess in what part of town!). Do you really need more? This is almost too depressing to type.
So--to turn the tables-- what about the current directions of our local government do you see as beneficial to the ENTIRE community. Quit using demeaning personal shots and get down to the business of improving our lives!
We don't have to serve on local govt to care, voice thoughts and/or work within the community(which I do on a regular basis). Actually we can probably accomplish more for the benefit of everyone by acting outside of the current system IMO.

The annual cost for upkeep on the garage and Swallens was $90,000. We were told that this $90,000 savings was going to pay off the bond for removal of the mall roof…Well that ain't going to happen. What do you think the annual cost for all these new buildings and the Manchester Inn will be??? Do you hear that sucking sound?..That’s our tax money going down that black hole known as downtown.
Maybe Middletown29 needs to study the Citys finicial reports and maybe in a few weeks he will be ranting and raveing also..

Pac- bottom line the PAC deal is and was from the get go a bottle of CRAP. Have eaten lunch also like SJ and when I leave I wish I would have gotten a Chicago dog from the hotdog dude. Could there be 53 vendors in the building, Yes. I have, since your post on the 15th asked 7 people who either know the art business in town, or who work for the city and NO one knows. I will pose this question to our new downtown czar when we get to hear from them at a council meeting. Never thought I would say this but if I could just sell my house(not give it away) I'd most likely move, the wife is already packed. Watched that very nice young lady at council who wants and believes in those street lamps, just bought the house on south main and shes a believer, we need more just like her. Trust me after a year or a half go by I'll be tracking her down to listen to her views on how this Admin. runs this town. RANTING will be missed if this country, state, town if our citizens don't get their sh-t together. Every day someone else brings up the dumbing down of America and when is enough a enough. 100's of volunteer hours put in by several posters on this site, don't like what or who you read, SKIP IT and throw down some solutions of your own. Not just a feel good paint job on a very serious WASTE of MY money.

just wanted to let spider know that as another native-who-cares, I appreciate all he's done and in spite of the headwinds, continues to contribute in a significant way. he has more than earned his right to rant.
not a bad taste in music either. hang in there spider, you've got more of us behind you than you might realize.

thanx squeem--much appreciated good seasons ahead for the mu-h and mu-m music series Sam Bush is leading in sales locally(my pick)--he is a very enjoyable show Bela is the real deal--caught his band at Fraze 2 weeks ago--doesn't get any better if you like that kind of thing mu-h is the best lineup at an outstanding season ticket value don't miss Turtle String Quartet(opening show), Tim O'Brien/Bryan Sutton or the African band in their return. imo Parrish Auditorium(seats 440) is one of the best sounding venues around we can see the top musicians on the planet with no hassle and a less than 30 minute drive

So excited The Grascals are coming to the MU-M series in December! Great band -- just picked up three nominations last week for the International Bluegrass Music Awards including Entertainer of the Year, which they've won twice in the past. It's been a few years since I've seen them, and they've added a female banjo picker since then, so it'll be interesting to watch their new dynamics on stage.

Thanx for the kind words, Mr.G.
I have honestly never heard the Grascals, and the opener that night--Josh Williams--is creating huge interest. So it should be ANOTHER wonderful show.
Hoping for a very enjoyable season between the two campuses.
The entire series is an excellent value, and would cost 5x in any major city(where these same acts regularly sell out). Remember--at MHS this year while Dave Finkleman gets a re-do. Look forward to an incredible return the following season. Requests?
Ben Harper?
John Hiatt?
Bruce Hornsby?
Richard Thompson?
Stanley Clark?
Maura O,Connell?
Abigail Washburn?
Leslie West?
Darrell Scott?
How about a 40-year reunion with Country Joe and Edgar Winter?
