Prithee, tell me, please,

Why the local constabularies,

When feting one of their own

Strayed so far from home?

 

Was not a place in our town,

Of sufficient renown,

Or otherwise right

On last Saturday night?

 

The cause was quite just.

In fact ‘twas a must,

To be drinking and eatin’

For Officer Deaton.

 

But their pay comes from here.

We thought that was clear.

“More tax” it was needed,

And so we conceded.

 

They might give some back.

Fete at some local shack!

How can they defend it,

Going elsewhere to spend it?
