From the City Manager's Report 10-21-09:

Do you think this will pass.  Would you rather be associated with a Franklin address or a Middletown address, even though technically you are in Middletown.

Zip Code Survey for Renaissance East and Renaissance West (Towne Mall area)

Great news! The Post Office has agreed to conduct a survey in November asking if residents and businesses which currently have a 45005 zip code if they would like to change zip codes to the Middletown 45042. It has taken a lot of work to get the post office to agree to conduct the survey. If a majority of recipients vote for a change, then mail delivery will change from Franklin post office to Middletown; all those involved will have a 45042 zip code. Currently, residents/businesses have to drive to Franklin to resolve any post office issues or pick up mail.

I have to agree Bobbie.  The businesses out there have been able to use Middletown in their address for quite a while.  I can see the old one's not changing, but even the new ones like PayChex chose to use Franklin.Wink

And just why would this be "Great News!" Ms. Gilleland? With the progress Franklin has made in the last few years and with the image that you have created for Middletown as a low income/welfare slum, why would a business choose the Middletown zip code identifying it with your poor image town? I seriously doubt that the Franklin community is endeared to anything Middletown wants to happen as Middletown hasn't necessarily been a good neighbor with the land "acquisitions" around the Towne Mall area. I wouldn't look for a favorable response on this. On the other hand, it would mean more mail inventory if Middletown's post office added the additional mail from the 45005 zip code possibly allowing the mail delivery schedule to remain at 6 days per week here and avoiding the mail delivery days to be cut to 4 or 5 days per week.

Nobody on the east side knows what town or zip code they are in anyway. If you do a map search for the hospital it shows a Franklin address, the hospital website says they are in Middeltown. Same with several others out that way.

But it doesn't matter, whatever our leaders think is right must be right, right ?  Ermm  Confused
