I know Monroe and West Middletown have different electric companies, but is there any possible way at all that Middletown can get rid of Duke Energy?

I would go into a lot of detail about how they screw and continue to screw people over, but I'm sure most everybody around here knows how they are about wanting to raise the prices and how they don't even read the meters or even leave notes saying they were at your house. But is there any way Middletown can go and bring in a different electric company that has some sense about what they're doing?

I would like to know myself. I would like to get rid of the water company as well, and just go back to an outhouse, then use cistern water.

The utility companies around here love to take advantage of people and situations. Where my step-dad's dad lives in NC,Duke wanted to raise their prices after they had a drought down there. The whole county got together and told Duke they were not going for it and Duke didn't raise them. And that's Duke's home state. We need to take a stand against them here since they want to raise prices after that wind storm that none of us had anything to do with.

And if I heard right,Duke also wants to charge us for street light usage?

I agree with you guys,Duke is friggin pathetic. They have been also charging us for the wind storm from last year, but it comes with the blessing from the PUCO,so people need to clammer the PUCO for allowing this crap.

And yes people do pay for the street lights. It's a small charge added to your electric bill. One light covers X amount of cutomers or houses is what my wife was told when she reported our street light as being out once.

Duke is pathetic when it comes to getting something done, worst company I ever seen.

Well, the street lights can be taken care of with no problem.lol BB Guns work.lol I don't need my light.lol

But seriously,we had a meter reader come to our house a couple of weeks ago,and of course he had to be called to come read the meter because he didn't show up the day he was supposed to show.We needed our electric meter read, and I'm pretty sure he was told that from the office,or maybe the office was too stupid to tell him.Take a guess. You'll be right either way. Anyways,he shows up and tells my mom he's here to read the gas meter. My mom had to tell him it was the electric meter that needed read.Regardless of what the guy was told, don't ya think he would just read both meters since it is his job? Or do they have two different types of meter readers? If they do,both sets of meter readers suck because they neither one do their job.

God,I could go on forever with what Duke has done to us.I might end up letting it all out sooner or later. We did just get done paying over $3,500 for an electric bill. And it wasn't our fault. We thought we were caught up.

Hermes- had a street light out at the corner of Rosedale Rd. and Rachel Lane last year. Called the city and reported the outage. The city rep told me that the city didn't take care of the street lights and it was Duke's responsibility. Got on Duke's website, found the form to report a street light outage and in two days, we had a new street light. Based on that experience, we thought Duke gave us good service. Two years ago, Duke had a tree trimming crew that went through our area trimming the trees away from the power lines. I believe they do this every five years or so. Other than the charges for the wind storm, can't really complain about Duke as yet. Amazing how the same company can do things that give people many different impressions of them. There is an alternative to using Duke's services. The wife told me that a few of the neighbors had electric service company trucks out a few days ago and they weren't Duke. I believe that we now have alternative choices for our area as to electric service- other than Duke. Might be something to check into if dissatisfied with them.

Well,I heard we have that option, but they're just like those cable trucks that work for the bigger guys. They hook up the cable, but they're hooking up TW and Direct TV. So basically, while we're talking to the new electric companies, they're still using Duke Energy.

My mom works at a store close by here and talks to her customers. She was talking to one about our Duke problem. The lady she was talking to has a breathing machine that helps her out.And from what I understand, the electric companies are not allowed to shut off your electricity if you're on one and for other reasons as well.Well, she told my mom that they came to her house one day to shut it off.She came to the door, with the machine attached mind you,and they told her she had a day or two to get a doctor's note saying she was on one or they were going to shut her's off. They didn't even give her time to do that. They were back the next day and shut her off. It's almost as if they don't have any sense as to what the rules are for that kind of stuff.

I think Middletown should just get Duke out of here altogether.Send them packing and bring in someone else.

Vet-I reported the light out via their website but nothing happened for over a week so then my wife called them and reported it then they sent out a truck I think within 3 days or so. 3 days is reasonable I think,I have no problem with that.

What I don't like about them is they are never prepared. Like last years wind storm. Then they turn around and recoup their loss by billing the customers. Loss is part of business. You take the loss and go on,you don't bill for it. PUCO is just as guilty on this part for allowing it.

I'm glad you get good service from Duke but I just don't like them. LOL

My friend of several years had Duke in South Carolina he stated that all they do is raise rates and give poor service. Hde said we'd sure wish we had CG&E back within a couple of years. Duke is out for Duke all they care about is the money they can raise. I'm seriosly considering a generator for my whole house operated on Propane . several are available for homes they can run everything . Propane is cheap and clean.
