Record Booze sales in Ohio:

COLUMBUS — Times may be tough, but they haven’t dried up Ohioans’ thirst for booze.

The Ohio Commerce Department on Wednesday, Aug. 19, reported that dollar sales for spirituous liquor — whiskey and other hard stuff — at the states’ 442 contract liquor agencies hit a record high $729.9 million in fiscal year 2009, which ended June 30.

That was an increase of $32.2 million — 4.61 percent — over the previous year, a press release said.

Also, the Liquor Control Division’s net profit increased to $224.2 million, a gain of $11.2 million over the previous year.

The profit margin for 2009 was 30.1 percent.

And record Lottery Sales:

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Lottery is one of the few places where the state has been making more money amid the recession.

Overall state revenue has been declining, down about 12 percent in July compared to the same month in 2008. But the Ohio Lottery Commission has reported record sales of $2.42 billion for the fiscal year that ended June 30.

The rise in drinking was probably due to the decrease of smoking. It's good news for all the big drinkers,GET DRUNK,STAY DRUNK,BUT DON'T GET CAUGHT SMOKING !!!
