Thursday, August 6, 2009 was the opening of the Cincinnati Premium Outlet Mall in Monroe and even though the economy is not the greatest, it did not stop people from coming out to shop and enjoying all this mall has to offer. MiddletownUSA.com was there for the ribbon cutting, which took place a little after 9:00am Thursday morning.

I went out there late yesterday and it was still packed. I hope it does well, in the long run it could help our town.

There was not a single parking place left yesterday, I bet today will be more of the same.

Lets see...Monroe gets a really nice outlet mall and Middletown gets a coke plant. The coke plant creates a few jobs and helps the mill so people make a little more money that they can spend at the outlet mall in Monroe. So Warren County & Monroe get the tax dollars. Yeah I can see how that will benefit Middeltown, along with the tourist. Clap
Gives Middletonians a great out-of-town shopping experience !

I agree that  as far as tax dollars go Middletown lost out with the mall going to Monroe, but my point was if you are out of work and looking for a job than maybe the mall can help.

I agree Randy, nothing wrong with that. I was being my usual sarcastic self comparing the mall to the coke plant. LOL

I would much rather have a mall over a coke plant, As it sits now we dont have either one. But If I needed a job you could bet that I would be in Monroe with a pen and a resume in hand.

When Fazio's opened in Middletown, next to the highway, it was the highest producing restaurant in the chain; a few years later it was among the lowest and went out of business. Ikea was a sensation, would get trampled for a year trying to get in and out, now its a nice facility to but cheap furniture. The Mall is new, so its a fad. and will have a following. It will be in high viibility for awhile. And it should be sustainable. The reason it was chosen was orximity, 65, 71, and 275. It will be there just as Washington Courthouse has stayed. But it has nothing to do with Monroe.

randy- the jobs offered at these shops pay poorly and are geared for young people who aren't even thinking about benefits yet. They are young and "invincible" as we all were at one time. The jobs offered may be enough to sustain a $350 / month apartment somewhere while affording a tankful of gas and a bag of groceries until the next paycheck. That may be fine for a young person who has limited responsibilities but it just doesn't cut it for the millions of unemployed middle age/ older workers out looking for a job now. Retail is a pathetic choice for a decent lifestyle and that's all that is being offered here. Nothing to get excited about on the job market front. JMO

But vet thats what america has become,a service industry. We don't make nothing,we don't offer nothing except service.

Parking is now widely available. The mall is actually slow.

I hope we don't end up with another dead mall. Heck, even the cell signal is bad at the mall.
