Pioneer Cemetery hearing is Thursday

A hearing is scheduled for Thursday before the Ohio Cemetery Dispute Resolution Commission concerning the Middletown Cemetery, also known as the Pioneer Cemetery.

According to a statement by City Manager Judy Gilleland, a citizen filed a complaint with the commission about the condition of the cemetery. Law Director Les Landen will attend the hearing on the city’s behalf.

The location of the hearing is 77 S. High St. in Columbus, 31st floor in Hearing Room East B.

Another complaint was filed with the commission earlier in the year, but was withdrawn in September, according to Landen.

In October, City Council voted to create a Middletown Cemetery Board to advise members on the operation and maintenance of the old Pioneer Cemetery and seek private donations for its upkeep.

The hearing participants need to prepare themselves for the Leslie Landen Dazzle 'em/Cover-up show. He will dazzle them with feats of magical double talk that would make a politician swell with envy. He will tell the folks in Columbus how the city has done all it could to be in compliance and that there is no money for the vault. He will tell them that there is a newly established "Cemetery Committee" that will do wonders in improving conditions and solving any "minor problems" that have occured there over the years. Yes, indeed, ole Les will do that voodoo that he can only do, and the result from the hearing will be that the Columbus folks will end up thanking the city for their efforts, even after seeing the before and after photos of what the volunteer group did that the city should have been doing all along, hearing about the plant/money disappearance, the gates being locked, grave markers being covered up with the gravel driveways, monuments toppled by vandals, fencelines being torn down by vandals, blue tarps on the vault roof for many months, etc.

And the investigation will be closed, and all will be right in the world, as Leslie drives back with a smile on his face, knowing that he won't have to take a tongue-lashing from Judith, High Priestess of City Hall. Good for you, Leslie.

Wasn't this scheduled a year ago, and then stayed? And if stayed, were there attempts to negotiate? And if there were attempts to negotiate, then they broke down? Or is the state has had so many cutbacks, it takes about 2-3 years to have a hearing scheduled. One assumesMs. Moon isn't in a position to respond with the hearing approaching, but why wasn't this taken care of a year ago?

Oh well, end game about what Vet indicated. City try harder, Ms. Moon, you are a nice resource for the community. Next case please, oh, this one has been long, filed in 1999.

WARNING
VOLUNTEERING IN MIDDLETOWN IS HAZARDOUS TO YOUR HEALTH

If you want to know the real reason why the city can’t get volunteers for projects and boards look no further than City Hall and their treatment of those that have volunteered their time.

Allowing non residents to be on these board is against our City Charter…but that’s ok because we use Landen Law here in
Middletown
...(I guess I will be able to vote in Indiana next year Wink)

The restoration of the Middletown Cemetery should have been completed three years ago but that would require that the city care about the REAL history of Middletown
and the 7,000 souls buried in this cemetery. The condition of the cemetery is a disgrace to our entire community.
