The city wants to stop folks from parking on the front lawn. They say it looks junky and contributes to the poor image of the town. They also say that Middletown is the only town that allows it. We have a conflict here. On one hand, it is private property and not owned nor maintained by the city, so is it any of the city's business? On the other hand, we, as citizens, should do what we can to not contribute to the problem this city has with image and should want to keep our property looking decent. Decisions, decisions.

NO PARKING ON FRONT LAWNS? Twice a year the customers of Denny Lumber Company park on the entire front lawn of the Middletown Cemetery and the City has never said one word about the damage these cars cause to the grass. Be very careful council, you are on a slippery slope. |

I can understand this rule,it does look tacky to have an automobile sitting in the grass of someones yard. As far as contributing to the overall look of the town thats overkill. If everyone in town done it then yes thats bad. For the most part I would support this rule/law.

Well I think this law should cover all the stupid things that people do. Furniture and boxes stacked on front porch for their weekly garage sale...TACKY TACKYGarbage cans left at front curb all week long..this really smells good in the summer time
Curtains flapping out the windows..can you spell SCREEN?
You are welcome to add your favorites to this list...

Vivian- I like the old cloth recliner that is stained and mildewed sitting on the front porch. There's a classic example of this in Franklin as you come down the hill by the old roofing place on 25. Look to your right by the trucking firm. Sure 'nuf- the old chair just a sittin' and a rottin' on that porch! House looks jim dandy too!!!! Hey! How 'bout the old bare spots in the lawn where the cars that leak oil have been sitting? Won't be able to grow anything there unless you dig down a foot or so and replace the soil. I drive past my old neighborhood occasionally and am sad at what it has become. Sometimes when a neighborhood turns over with new owners, it falls, appearance-wise of what it once was. Perhaps some non-caring homeowners, who, in the past, stayed in the "less desirable" parts of town, are migrating to areas of town we never thought they would inhabit. For example- Grand Avenue from Orchard east was always kept nice. Now, not so much.
