I have attended many a city council meeting and never have a felt the need to stand and speak, until tonight that is. As I sat there listening to landlords talk about how great the system and others praise Consoc. i had enough, what was the fire started my brief comment time? The fact that a landlord said " we could be the model for section 8 accross the country" as I sat there I thought I dont wanna be the model for section 8. So I filled out my card and said what I said. I am not the most well spoken person on earth nor will I ever say other wise.
I tried to stand for all of us here and voice our thoughts. It was after the meeting that was funny and the most interesting. Landlords came to me to say how reducing the number will hurt Middletown, and while I agree with some of what they said. I just cant see how having this number of vouchers helps us.
I would love to more of us show up and these section 8 meetings and voice our opinions. We have to stand up guys if we want to make some changes or at least try to make some changes. please come to the next meeting and tell city council just why section 8 is hurting Middletow...I promise that there are those on council that will listen.

Hey Randy, Good job tonight. Just how will Middletown be affected worse than it has already, according to the Landlords? |

I have been to council meetings off and on,I would love to be able to attend more. I would also love to be able to stand there and address council but they would haul me out of there in handcuffs. I am not the laid back person I was in my youth,I can't restrain my anger towards a bunch of big shot political wantabe's who think they are better than anyone else. And as for those "slumlords" who addressed you Randy I think I would have had to just punch out a few. And how many of those are actual residents of Middeltown ?

Nice job Randy. I had planned on coming but got caught at work. Got home in time to see you and the lady before you. Was she a plant? She is a professiona mouch of the system. From the sound of it she had been on section 8 her entire life. She complains about no jobs, but she looked pretty healthy to me. Oh wait a minute we feed her too!! Don't get me wrong, some folks need some help do to illness or handicaps, but she was a loser kust like the vast majority of them. Came home from work last night and drove downn old Roosevelt, one of the section 8 apartments has a neon sign saying "Open Walk Ins welcome" Are you kidding me! They all need to go! I will do my best to be at the next meeting. Thanks for saying what needed to be heard.

Smartman. I also saw that neon sign, while earlier there was a table out in the front of that same apartment with someone trying to sell some kind of crap.
When did this become a commerical area? Doesn't one have to have a permit to be running a business in this area.
I know the difference in a yard sale and a business venture. Where 's the dam cops?

Randy- nice job. Had to stay home last night to take care of the wife. Son was working in Hamilton to 2AM and his wife who normally would take care of her in this situation was whining about feeling bad.....sooooo. I was the only game in town to be the caregiver.
Hermes- I'd like to take this opportunity to lend my expertise to you on your self-admitted problem of losing your temper and telling the city people off. As you know, I'm a cool customer when it comes to addressing these people in council and would never think of offending them nor disagreeing with them. Now, I'm willing to work with you from time to time, and will guide you away from the direct, blunt, "tell it like it is" manner in which you speak and will motivate you to be the kinder, gentler, more tolerant, understanding, "see it their way" individual that they like to have talk to them. After all, I like to think of myself as the poster child for tolerance, agreement and understanding of the way they are running the city. |

Great job, Randy.
You were spot on.
I have pretty much given up talking to Council, individually or as a group.
Laubaugh is beginning to show the right stuff, Scott Jones is ok, Smith is clueless, and the other 4 sit there silently waiting for their cue to vote YES.
Aren't we all happy with Mr.Allen's participation?
Why did he REALLY want to be on Council?
Surely not because he had ideas and wants to communicate with his ward residents and the citizens.
Why no discussion on TIG?
A feeling tells me that CONSOC was silent per legal advice, and will get a huge settlement somehow, and will be required not to comment or release info on past practices.

Spider TIG is to be brought in at the next meeting. I hope that this mess is not dragged out for another 12-18 months, what a circus the Housing meeting was last night.

Thanks for speaking at the meeting last night, Randy - you did a great job! Just happened to turn on the tube before turning in (go to bed quite early) and saw the gal before you. I thought she was probably paid to come to speak on the behalf of the program and CONSOC as others on the board have mentioned. Told my husband to turn on the TV in the other room when I saw you at the podium. There is way too much Section 8 in this city. I moved back to Middletown from California about 14 years ago and didn't realize the city was starting to backslide at that time. We carry too much of the burden for this program and it has taken it's toll on us as a city. Thanks again for taking the time and effort to express your opinion (and many others) at the meeting. |

IMO - I would be that you will see a lawsuit from Consoc - you will probably see them receive a nice settlement as well. You could see the frustration in Adkins face. I think Consoc had a target on their head from the moment that council voted them in. Whether you like them or not - they are not the blame for the increase - that is past council's fault. Adkins mentioned not getting reports on time, however she mentioned that they were sent to the city on the 1st or 2nd. Most reports go by month. If they are sending it out on the 1st or 2nd, that is a timely as you can get - is the issue that someone at the city is not getting it to Adkins timely. There is alot more to this story - and since Adkins and Gilliland did not want them there - I am sure they are doing everything they can to get them out.
Wrong address issue that Adkins kept bringing up - I find it hard to believe that for the last few months they have received 60 per month of incorrect address. It was brought up they wanted legal abreviations - well is it possible that they would consider a wrong address if you say Jackson - that could be Jackson St, Jackson Ave - then there is Manchester - same issue.
I think there is alot more to this story and if you don't want them in - you better have everything straight. We do not have money to just give away in a law suit.

Oh crap Mike!!!!!!! Might be time for some emergency legislation on this and to apply for some fed grant money to study this horrendous mistake. to both of us for getting this scheduling wrong. Should we approach Council on this at the next Citizens Comments session and wait to be ignored?

Thank you everyone for your words on my appearance during public comments at the MPHA meeting. I really was disgusted with the things that were being said about section 8 and how great HUD and Consoc are and how all the vouchers in Middletown are not playing a roll in the city's current state.
Any one that knows me and has meet me at meetings knows I usually sit there quietly and get some film. I tend think that my speaking out against things is sort of a conflict given my roll here on MUSA. But last night was the proverbial straw.
The funniest thing was the look on peoples faces when my name was called to talk, LOL I could see the shock on some faces of council members. You would have thought I was gonna reveal some big secrete or I was gonna preach MUSA 4-life. I do think someone needed to remind council and the people watching just what the numbers are, the fact is the numbers do not lie. 68% of section 8 for a county located in one area says it all to me.
I have had enough with all the talking...it time for someone on council or the city building to stand up and do what is right. I do believe that Josh and Scott-Jones are on the right path. JMO
I also think that Consoc is being thrown under the bus here, they are not completely to blame for this mess we find ourselves in.
After the meeting was over I had some talks with landlords Dan Tracy and Jeff Faulkner (spelled wrong I know Sorry) Jeff did give me some info from HUD, it is their response to this new plan from Doug Adkins and the city of Middletown. Have a read it is interesting stuff. HUD Response
I do love the fact that some of landlords dont live in Middletown, It is easy to say keep the vouchers here we need them...when you dont live here and see the shape of this town everyday.
I will say this...it is time for MUSA readers and posters to take a more active role in what is happening in Middletown. Myself included!!

Good job Randy. How about posting the clip of your time at the podium here so those of us who didn't make it can watch... I, for one, would love the opportunity to see. Someone out there must have it.

I apologized, Vet!! I was wrong and you were right!!!
I just checked my calendar and you were poster child for arts and humanities last week, so it is Hermes's turn for that this week. It is your week to be the poster child for tolerance, agreement and understanding of the way they are running the city, and my week to be the poster child for for cheering for our unelected leaders and inflating public information figures!
Rah, rah, Sam!! Rah, rah, Ann!! Go, Mike, go!!
Rim Ram Ree, hit 'em in the knee!!
Rim Ram Rass, Hit 'em with another 250,000 visitors this weekend!!!
GooooOOO Middletoooooowwwn!

Presta: The real question for you is: Why didn't you do your job and review the workbook over the weekend and alert the people here to the issues for this meeting?
Maybe then more would've shown up to support Randy.
Quit shirking your duties. These people depend on you.

The message as I saw it from Randy was about 68% of Butler's County Section 8 was in Middletown. Then the tap dancing started from Ms. Smith, stating in every community, people want to move (Orlando, etc), how silly and totally off mark, and Lambaugh taking a % and exptrapolating it to be a national constitutional opinion on one's own personal responsibility and the country is spending too much money and running up a deficit. And Mr. Mullins? He just sat there with his head down, trying his best to be patient and move the discussion on.
No one at city council comprehended the message: pretty simple all, 68% of section 8 in one city in one county is two much. Instead, it excuses that people wanting to leave Middletown are no different than any other city, a generalization 68% is a statement which must be moved up to the larger realm of federal deficits and constitutional principles (manage the city Mr. Lambaugh, not the OMB).
My question is: why do you people bother, no one gets it downtown, never have, never will. Messenger's point was- why is 68% of a county's total in Middletown, and what are its impact? Review the film, no one got messenger's point. Seemed Ms. Smith just saying Middletown was no different than any other city, as people want to move, the grass is always greener. How sad the constant lack of depth is put in office every four years. No chnge, no comprehension, macro generalities.Par for the course.

From the sound of it she had been on section 8 her entire life. She complains about no jobs, but she looked pretty healthy to me.
