I am curious as to the pros of a non ward  system. I am afraid one group of people from one part of town will end up making all the decisions. I hope I am wrong.

Sun you can't fault people because they get out and vote.  The 3rd ward has a powerful voting block and they vote.  Only 433 votes separated the Yea's and the Nay's on this issue.  150 voters from each of the other wards would have turned the tide, but the voters weren't there.  Only 1300 voters voted from the 2nd Ward, while 3300 voted from the 3rd Ward.

Exactly Pac- Wonder how many ELIGIBLE voters Middletown has that either didn't register or didn't bother to get their lazy carcasses to the polls to vote? Only 8000 voters or so out of a town of 48,000 population? Is that right? If so, that's pathetic!!! So many people in this town that are angry and fed up -- oh- but not fed up enough to change it. Sad.

Question- why would people vote to lower the number of councilmembers and eliminate the ward system? They are potentially giving up any representation for their part of town and by reducing the number of councilmembers, are helping the power brokers finance fewer people. Isn't logical to do this.

Another incredible observation- Are the people who live in the 1st ward alright? Is there some type of "reasoning" issues occuring in that ward? Did I read correctly? Armbruster won another term? Say it ain't so! What have they been seeing the last four years from this man? Do they like the old "frog on a log" demeanor for a rep? Mercy!!!!!!!

Sorry to say Armbruster did win. Dead It makes me ill to think that people in this city/country are just flat out too lazy to get off their duffs and vote.

Vet, it is good to hear from you. I hope your wife is improving. I live in ward 1 and I am disappointed in the election results. It just proves the point that MMF and the city employees are still calling the shots here in Middletown. The inmates are running the funny farm or the tail is wagging the dog. Be prepaired for more years of Middletown's downhill spiral.
How can we get enough citizen to see what is going on and will get out and vote for real positive change? Since our present council refuses to face the REAL problems (street repair, separating the combined sewers downtown, the Pioneer Cemetery and our business unfriendly administration, etc., etc.), we MUST convince enough citizens to vote for REAL change. How can we get citizens to understand that being the number 1 fastest dying city in the country (with a population under 100,000)(in other words, the least desirable place to live or to have a business) is NOT a badge of honor? Council ignores the reasons for this rating and decide that having citzens paint their gutters will solve all these problems. I can see it now, a visiting businessman saying: Middletown has some of the lowest performing schools, worst streets, red light cameras, least upkept parks and cemetery, over run with section 8 housing and have zoned out our business, but I want to locate here because they have painted gutters and some of the highest taxes of the competing areas. Of cource council knows how to overcome all of this; hire more economic development people and let Marty change all the business zoning to residential. That will get businesses and people to move here.
Government is not the answer to problems, government is the problem.

I live in the first ward too and think it is a shame that people will do all that complaining but won't do anything about it. Of all the registered voters in Middletown only a little over 8000 got out and voted.  Yes it is a dark day that Armbruster got back in. He will most likely go back to his usual routine---sit in his chair like a lump on a log and contribute little or nothing to the process. I talked with Mr Barge this morning and at least I can say it appears he didn't stoop to any of the other sides antics (such as signs on city property) or take money from any special group/person. He said he paid for everything out of his own pocket. So it will be interesting to see how much Armbruster amassed for his campaign.

OK Armbruster---you've had 4 years to learn the job now s---t or get off the potAngry

Thanks folks on the concern for the wife. She is now in rehab. They're getting her up every day at 8AM and doing speech and physical therapy with her. Her speech is back to about 75% or so. Another 4 to 6 weeks for her there. Time marches on. Just glad to have her still here with me. The neurologist said when it happened she might not make it because the stroke was of major proportion. She's a fighter and will make it.
