Journal story.....
ELECTION 2013 Middletown councilman won’t seek re-election MIDDLETOWN — The race for two open City Council seats this November will be a three-way tango between two sitting council members and the president of the local NAACP chapter. On the heels of Vice Mayor Dan Picard and Councilwoman Ann Mort announcing at Tuesday night’s council meeting they have filed their petitions seeking re-election (GOD HELP US ALL), Dora Bronston, president of the Middletown Area of the NAACP, announced late Tuesday she will seek one of those open seats “I’m running for City Council because I want to fight to rebuild our community and bring back good-paying jobs by seizing on our strategic location in the Cincinnati-Dayton corridor,” said Bronston. “In a post-industrial community like Middletown that has seen a steady decline in blue-collar jobs over the last two decades, it is critical that we continue to find innovative ideas to attract new industry to put our local men and women back to work.” BINGO MS. BRONSTON!!! THAT IS A VITAL NEED FOR THIS COMMUNITY. DON'T SEE THE REST OF THE COUNCIL INSISTING ON JOBS AS A TOP PRIORITY.THEY DON'T GET IT. THIS IS A NICE START. YOU HAVE INDICATED THAT YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS TOWN REALLY NEEDS TO GET MONEY FLOWING, PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR PEOPLE WHO CHOOSE TO LIVE HERE AS WELL AS PROVIDING PEOPLE WITH BUYING POWER. After Mort and Picard announced their intentions to continue to serve the city of Middletown, Councilman A.J. Smith announced he will not seek re-election, saying he is “going to go on to a different phase” of his life. Although he did not say during and would not say after the meeting what that phase encompasses GOODBYE AJ. THANK YOU FOR CARING ENOUGH TO SERVE. IT AIN'T AN EASY JOB. THE UNIONS HAVE LOST SOME COUNCIL SUPPORT BY YOU LEAVING. DIDN'T ALWAYS AGREE WITH YOUR POINT OF VIEW, HOWEVER, I DON'T NECESSARILY HOLD YOU IN THE SAME CONTEMPT AS I DO THE REST, LESS LAUBACH OF COURSE. AND NOW, A LITTLE HUMOR FOR THE START OF THE DAY....... Picard, who will wrap up his first term on City Council this December, said he wants to continue to help the city continue on its road to prosperity. "ROAD TO PROSPERITY"..... He said in his time on council, the city is emerging from a severe recession NOPE DANNY, NOT YET. has been a part of a rebirth of downtown, NOPE DANNY, NOT YET. has seen several businesses open — including Cincinnati State Middletown CINCY STATE SUCCESS SHORT AND LONG TERM? TBD and a new gateway project on Interstate 75. (EXCEPT FOR THE EAST SIDE OF THE INTERCHANGE.....THAT'S STILL A TAD BIT SHABBY DANNY) “But most importantly what’s happened in this city is the reinforcement of our manufacturers,” Last year alone, over $150 million was invested by local companies in Middletown, solidifying their position in Middletown in trying to make sure strong manufacturing jobs will continue.” NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING ENOUGH TO REPLACE WHAT HAS LEFT IN THE LAST FOUR DECADES. Mort said she believes the city “has turned the corner and there are a lot of good things happening and I look forward to helping them move a little bit further ahead.” ALOT OF "GOOD NEWS/GOOD THINGS" FROM MORT ISN'T THERE. SHE LIKES TO USE THAT PHRASE QUITE OFTEN, DOESN'T SHE? ALOT OF ROSY TALK FROM HER. EVEN THOUGH THE SITUATION REALLY ISN'T AS UPBEAT AS SHE THINKS. IT IS ONE THING TO BE POSITIVE. IT IS ANOTHER TO BE IN DENIAL ABOUT THE REALITY OF THE SITUATION. JUST TELL IT LIKE IT IS AND MOVE TO IMPROVE IT MORT. YOU CAN CUT ALL THE PR CRAP. |

Thanks for the service and for a laugh here and there....Best of luck in your next phase of life.Wish you could talk some sense into Danny Boy and Mrs.High Society Mort in joining you in leaving. Picard, who will wrap up his first term on City Council this December, said he wants to continue to help the city continue on its road to prosperity. Don't you have to have a "ROAD " to drive down to get to prosperity? If you haven't noticed latey Danyy Boy roads here Suck. Keep on voting for "UNessary" things and keep on following the rest of the loser's you will be looking from the outside to the inside. If I was allowed one wish it would be for the removal of all the "SPINELESS ONES." Including QUEEN Gillian,Lesly and Mr.A. There version of "THEIR" downtown changes is nothing but a waste of money. My vote will have one check mark or X mark on it,it will be going to Dora Bronston. The rest of you need to just retire and sit back On Main Street and admire your "PURTY" new lights. |

I will definitely be voting for Ms.Bronston.
Have known her for a long time, and like her very much. Plus--she said all of the right things in her brief reasoning for running. Personally, I like Ms.Mort and Mr.Picard a lot--just don't care for their direction for Council. If it comes down to just those three running, I will only make one vote, in order not to dilute that choice. |

We need one more good candidate beside Ms Bronston. Picard and Mort are both losers.

From MJ:
Smith cleared of elections, ethics complaints The Ohio Ethics Commission Friday has dismissed the elections complaint filed against Councilman A.J. Smith. A complaint was filed with the ethics board against Smith for failing to file his 2011 Financial Disclosure Statement on time. This comes on the heals of the December 2012 Board of Elections decision to drop its Ohio Elections Commission complaint. The board voted to withdraw its complaint filed with the elections commission “because of the due diligence shown in attempting to bring these records into compliance,” according to an email from Butler County Board of Elections Deputy Director Jocelyn Bucaro. Smith announced last month that he will not seek re-election this November to City Council. |
