Give your opinion on the 3-C Rail Plan

My vote is to first begin stabilizing both the Social Security and MediCare programs that are going broke partially due to previous Congressional raiding of these trust funds.

Vivian you don't have to convince me, I am not a proponent of a rail system doing much of anything for Middletown.  Those that think the tourists are just going to line up to come to Middletown, I have a house I'd like to sell you in the Third Ward.

Hey! Whoa! Midfest- Broad St. Bash- small taters'. Don't forget the Balloon Fest with all 70,000 people in attendance. Have we not learned anything here? Let's not make the fatal mistake of leaving Ann Mort out of the conversation and not mention her name and give her due credit. I agree with all who think this is not worth the price to administer. And I don't see how, once/if implemented, it will have a dramatic impact on this city. Nothing to "get off" the train for in this town.(unless it's to visit the Hydraulic Canal on a 90 degree summer day in "full aromatic bloom" or a "ye old horse and buggy" tour of the vacant shops in ye old downtown Middletown as the "vision" is explained to the patrons) Don't understand the city leaders position on this. I made a comment on the survey that the rail system would be phased out in future years or greatly reduced in service area with stations being closed over time as interest waned. In the meantime, a massive amount of taxpayer money would have been wasted that could have gone into infrastructure/roads in the state. As with casino planning or any high dollar planning, did the pro rail system proponents ask the states that had this system how it's working for them, while comparing similar demographics? IE- Can't compare a rail usage plan for New York-Chicago-LA and apply it to Ohio usage. I would think the situations in both are totally different. Just don't see it benefitting Middletown a great deal. The only riders getting on/off will be the few commuters that work in Dayton and Cincy. Most will continue to drive. Don't see alot of people coming into town to do business as there aren't that many high profile companies in town to do business with. JMO

Hermes, the bus route just implemented from Midd. to Hamilton and back would give us an indication of the ridership between the two cities. Haven't heard too much about the amount of usage from this new bus route since it was started. Perhaps the reason we haven't heard much about it is because it isn't going as planned. Alot of noise from officials when things are introduced but it gets real quiet if they aren't successful. Funny how that works. Kinda like the city leaders big plans for the downtown area and then when nothing happens, the big plans are silenced apparently in the hope that people will forget. Can you all say Paducah (sp) Kentucky trip? Who's fooling who here?
