My vote is to first begin stabilizing both the Social Security and MediCare programs that are going broke partially due to previous Congressional raiding of these trust funds.
In my opinion, high speed rail service is not a high priority for the State of Ohio. My preference is to stimulate "real" private sector jobs via miscellaneous incentives.

Pacman The 3-C Rail Plan is a flawed plan because they have already stated that it would not even break even...more wasted tax payers money. The 3-rail Plan if and when it ever stops in Middletown will only take people and their money away from Middletown to all the new Casinos that are going to be built here in Ohio...but the good thing is the money will be staying in Ohio. |

Vivian you don't have to convince me, I am not a proponent of a rail system doing much of anything for Middletown. Those that think the tourists are just going to line up to come to Middletown, I have a house I'd like to sell you in the Third Ward.

Pac: Even more ludicrous is the belief of City Hall that people will be lining up to ride these trains to DOWNTOWN Middletown as a "DESTINATION"!!!

Broad Street Bash is the one bright spot that we've had lately. However, that is simply not enough to make Middletown a tourist destination, and certainly not enough to draw people by the trainload to a station over a mile (and it would have to be more, as the existing location is not viable) away.
I admire what the Broad Street Bash group has accomplished, and wish them continued success. I also hope that they don't step on the wrong toes and get squashed by the self-appointed illuminati of this town.

Hey! Whoa! Midfest- Broad St. Bash- small taters'. Don't forget the Balloon Fest with all 70,000 people in attendance. Have we not learned anything here? Let's not make the fatal mistake of leaving Ann Mort out of the conversation and not mention her name and give her due credit.

Unlike the east coast where people live in upstate NY or somewhere and ride the trains everyday to work riders in Ohio will no doubt be occasional. If the train was local and ran a route like a bus then you might see some major ridership. A route from Cincinnati to Hamilton to Middeltown and back again different times of day might do something. (or it might not) But the proposed plan sounds more like a Disneyland ride than anything. With the occasional sightseer out for a day trip.
I see it as a major waste of tax payer money and a quicker way for DC to drive us into total economic collapse.

Hermes, the bus route just implemented from Midd. to Hamilton and back would give us an indication of the ridership between the two cities. Haven't heard too much about the amount of usage from this new bus route since it was started. Perhaps the reason we haven't heard much about it is because it isn't going as planned. Alot of noise from officials when things are introduced but it gets real quiet if they aren't successful. Funny how that works.

Vet - good point I had forgotten about that bus route. But your right too that if something doesn't work as planned it's swept under the rug.
Instead of city leaders working out plans based on the success of other cities why not base it on the FAILURES of other cities and then do the opposite or do something different ? If you do it based on others success all your doing is copying what they did right ? Then if they fail in the future so do we because it was copied.
