Letter grades bill for schools clears

A bill bestowing A through F grades on Ohio school districts, buildings and specialty programs has cleared its final committee hurdle in the Ohio Legislature.

The Senate Education Committee approved the bill Tuesday, after making a slew of technical changes. A full Senate vote is expected Wednesday.

The bill would give letter grades to school districts , school buildings, community schools, STEM schools and college-preparatory boarding schools based on more than a dozen performance measures.

Grades would be phased in to replace the current five-tier system of excellent, effective, continuous improvement, academic watch and academic emergency. No overall grades for districts would be given this coming year.

Let's see.....going from designations such as excellent, continual improvement and academic watch to A thru F will do what to make a difference in how we rate the schools? Does this idea really do anything to contribute to improving anything concerning education? OR.....are the movers and shakers in Columbus just bored with no real work to do and to show the public they are working, have come up with anything to represent activity? This appears to be meaningless nonsense. JMO
I'm so proud of my hometown and what it has become. Recall 'em all. Let's start over.
