Support the Scouts - Order Popcorn

   Today starts this year's annual Boy Scout popcorn sale.  For those who don't know, Trail's End Popcorn is a division of Weaver brands that only produces product for the Boy Scouts of America.  The Scouts sell popcorn each year (in the fall for us) and around 70% of each dollar earned stays with Scouting (about 1/3 stays with the local Boy Scout Troop, Cub Scout Pack, Varsity Team, Venturing Crew, Sea Scout Ship or Explorer Post that sold it).  Please consider ordering some popcorn from a Scout this year to help him (or her) earn money to support their Scouting careers.

My son is trying to earn enough money to attend the National Jamboree in 2013 by selling popcorn.  Needless to say he has to sell quite a bit to achieve that goal, as the total cost for attending the jamboree may exceed $1500 out of pocket!  If you'd like to support him you can do so online at http://bit.ly/bearbait, or you can order directly from me (we deliver to Middletown and the surrounding area).  The in-person items for sale are different than what is online (a list follows at the end of this email).

OR you can order from a Scout hopefully coming door-to-door in your neighborhood, or buy from a family member or at one of the many show and sell locations that will begin appearing in early October.

Also available are military donations in a silver and gold level ($30 and $50, respectively).  These donations support both the Scouts and the military and are 100% tax deductible.  Part of the money stays with Scouting, and popcorn is sent to military bases around the world for our active duty servicemen and servicewomen to have a little treat from home.  It is a win/win for both the Scouts and our military personnel!

Support your local BSA units and order some popcorn or make a donation of popcorn to our active duty military!  If not from my son or me, at least from your local neighborhood Scout!

PS - If you have a flag that is ready to be retired, give it to the Scout that comes to your door selling popcorn.  We hold retirement ceremonies all the time and they'll be more than happy to take care of that for you!
