I present, for your consideration, the following excerpt from the minutes of the 12/10/2010 meeting of the Historic Commission:

Mr. Kohler mentioned some concern about 700 S. Main. It was sold to someone who lives in Georgia last March who has done nothing to the building. It has been broken into several times recently and there have been incidents of vandalism. Mr. Kohler has requested that property maintenance enforcement be stepped up on this property. If there is no response to this request, the Historic Commission may need to invoke the section of the historic preservation ordinance on maintenance standards. We would need to present facts of its condition to this Commission and the group would have to make a finding that it is in bad condition and then issue orders that work to remedy the situation be conducted.”

What a shame that Mr. Kohler has not shown the same “concern for the historic vault at the historic Middletown Cemetery!!!

There have also been several break-ins here.

There have also been several incidents of vandalism here.

Yet, Mr. Kohler has NOT “requested that property maintenance enforcement be stepped up on this property”!!!

The Historic Commission has not felt the “need to invoke the section of the historic preservation ordinance on maintenance standards” on this property

Why hasn’t the Historic Commission issued “orders that work to remedy the situation be conducted” on the Historic vault at HISTORIC Middletown Cemetery???

Why has the Historic Commission been so completely SILENT on the vault issue???

Isn’t Mr. Kohler guilty of misfeasance, malfeasance, and nonfeasance of his duties as a PUBLIC OFFICIAL and DIRECTOR of a MUNICIPAL DEPARTMENT???

Why the DOUBLE STANDARD???

Why the HYPOCRISY???

Why hasn't Mr. Kohler been FIRED???

All good questions Mike, but I honestly believe the city has other plans for the cemetery.

There is no reason in the world that the cemetery should be ignored by the city and the historic commission, this is part of their job to upkeep and monitor. The only conclusion can be the city possibly has plans to relocate that cemetery and develop the land. Why else would they all ignore the issue's with it ?
No more democrats no more republicans, vote Constitution Party !!

Hermes,

So, what you are saying is that City Hall has a CONFLICT OF INTEREST with this commission (and possibly others) and that is why they load up the boards and commissions with members of City staff, boyfriends, girlfriends, spouses, cronies, liaisons, and the like??? So that anything opposing wishes of of City Administration (or, say, MMF) can be nipped in the bud???

Is THAT what you are saying???

PS: One of the most difficult things to do in the world is to "move" a cemetery (at least any cemetery larger than a small "family" type)!!!

Middletown Cemetery is an “active cemetery” and therefore can not be moved at this time. I believe that about 20 plots are still available for burial of family members.

Mike, I read the historic minutes about 700 S
Main
and you are correct…again we have double standard use of Middletown Landen Law.
The laws only apply when they want them to apply.

Hmmm… since it’s not being maintained I guess the City will put this property on the demo list also.

Do any of you remember the old
Tytus Ave cemetery that is located under the Middletown Paint & Glass?
