Does anyone know what is going on with the old church building at the corner of Wibraham/Wilmore? It was being actively used up until about 2 months ago, then it seemed to fall into decline nearly overnight. Windows are open, trash and furniture is strewn on the lawn and it looks (and somtimes sounded) as though someone has been scrapping metal out of it. There is someone possibly living on the second floor infrequently. I have contacted the city, but no reply, and obviously no enforcement or checks on the property have been successful in getting it secured or cleaned up. Another fine example of an abandoned property in the city.

If this Church has valuable stained glass windows, rumour has it that a city planning department employee will escort the proprietors of a local stained glass emporium through it in the evening hours to "rescue" them.
Just a rumour, mind you, but from an uncommonly reliable source.

I went to some Christmas program there about 20 years ago. They had a blue and gold grand piano on a rotating platform that turned in circles while the music director played it. It was very over the top. It looked like Christmas done Liberace style. I was surprised how big that church is inside. If I'm not mistaken, it is the old Grace Baptist Church before they moved out to I-75.

Several neighbors have called City Hall about the condition of the building and nothing has been done. They think some homeless may be living in the building. |
