Big thumbs up to Mr. Smith from me on his answers to the section 8 question.
"Middletown has 15% of the county’s population and 58% of the county’s Section 8 vouchers; predominately in the second ward. That is entirely too much; not to mention, it has segregated our city by class and overall concentrated poverty. Concentrated poverty is an open door for high, outrageous crime rates. That is the result of our city administration not monitoring the program for many years. As your councilman, I will work hard to make sure that we not only enforce building codes to landlords, but also decrease the number of vouchers over a period of time." |

Kudos to Mr. Smith for taking a stand on Section 8 and crime in our community. If he is elected, I hope to see him take a proactive approach to these problems.

Mr. Smith's replies seem to have more substance than Ms. Ford's did. I agree with the Section 8 comments that he mentioned. If we can get Mr. Smith some help in the form of some new members who share some of his ideas, perhaps we can start to see some positive changes on Council. However, we still have to address part 2 of the problem- the city leaders at One Donham Plaza. Council needs to change their thinking AND the city manager on down needs to change course also. Their thinking has been going the wrong direction for many years as they drive this town to its grave.
