As some may know, the Middletown Antique Mall closed yesterday. The owners had a potential buyer who wanted to keep the same type of business and do some light manufacturing in the rear. for which it is also zoned. Previously this type of activity was done there. The potential buyers were told by Marty (MadCow) Kohler, he wanted this to be strictly retail.
The end result? The potential buyers went out of town and purchased a building!! Business friendly? I think not!!

If the building was zoned for retail and light manufacturing and the new owners wanted to use it as such, Mr. Kohler should have kept his mouth shut and let them use the building according to the zoning. Really none of his business as long as they complied with the zoning. A big thank you goes out to young Martin for driving yet another business from the city. I'm telling you Gilleland and crew, this boy is going to be your downfall as he is helping to destroy all of what little credibility you have with the people. Better show him the door before he damages this town even more.

You are correct, 409 and Vet! What Kohler "wants" shouldn't matter!!! He has already fouled up the building codes, and zoning restrictions in this town beyond all repair by treating Middletown like his own little "Sim City". He "needs" to be shown the door if Midletown is to be turned around!

Will the "all-knowing bureaucrats" ever realize that they don't have all the answers?
Will the "all-knowing bureaucrats" ever listen to the ideas and opinions of the citizenry?
How many of these elitists ever owned or operated their own businesses?
Do they really care?

Welcome to Middletown, Open For Business, Where your Prosperity is not our Business
Look for more friendly Business actions taken by the City come May from this note in a Memo from the Housing Committee:
22) Code Enforcement: a. 2300 letters sent to properties in violation. b. Phones busy but very little negative feedback. (Phone are rolling, there are up to five persons to answer phone calls) c. List of Middletown partnering businesses on City website by mid ‐April.d. FAQ being developed to add to Code Enforcement on website. e. Obtaining 2009 IPMC for implementation in Middletown. Currently using 2003 Edition. f. Concentration March to May – residential with minimal commercial. Dealing with 2300 letters and incoming nuisance complaints g. Will take more active role in commercial in May – part time inspector and shift of existing inspectors time to commercial. |

God forbid that the strong emphasis on housing codes by the City won't cause us retirees and unemployed home owners to sell our houses out of desperation? We have needed more home owners and less landlords for quite some time haven't we!

The percentage of owner-occupied residential properties in Middletown has been declining for a number of years. Could this have some bearing on the uncertain state of our city?

Looks like a couple of more buildings made the "demolish" list perhaps.
Why not just "demolish" the entire downtown area and move it out next to the interstate ?!!!

As I read this lest, I have difficulty understanding what some of these items have to do with the "HOUSING Subcommitte".
