From a story in today's E-Journal:

Misunderstanding results in CVB vote do-over

City commissions, boards to get info on Ohio meetings law, law director says.

CVB 'rainy day' fund

The board also held a short discussion on how it could use some of the $120,000 it has saved up for special projects.

================================
Now, this is just one sentence buried deep in an article on another subject.  If you'd like to read the entire story, in context, here is the link:
“Mulligan said he ... doesn’t believe they necessarily make the return on investment necessary to keep funding them.” …The Middletown Journal, January 30, 2012

I cannot understand how the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau could possibly amass a six-figure savings account for “special projects” in what should be times of economic sacrifice. It is my understanding that the bulk of their funding comes from the City of Middletown “bed tax.”

Perhaps city council should be taking a hard look at the “bed tax” and direct the proceeds to an area where it is actually needed so desperately that it will actually be USED!

However, I must admit that I have again gone through the 2009 Budget Resolution (passed 12/2/2008) and cannot find hide nor hair of either the “bed tax” or the CVB.

Something must be done about the “mystery” in Middletown’s budget and budgeting process.

Mike, can you post the 2009 on a new thread?
That way we can review it together.
