At their Sat. retreat, Council discussed giving the Charter Review Committee a topic of raises for Councilmembers. The article stated that Charter changes must be voted on by citizens. Suggestion to the Charter Committee- don't waste too much time on the raise topic. It won't pass the citizen vote. Also discussed, according to the Voner, were Section 8, watching the city's finances, economic development, roads and attracting people to town. Wow, the brainstorming was running rampant in the old Chamber of Commerce building today!

'Fiscal prudence' is city's top goal
Other goals identified are to demolish blighted buildings; enforce property maintenance; do street improvements; to work on the redevelopment of Towne Mall and downtown area; and to attract new residents to the city. |

......Well, I think the City needs to take care of their own property maintenance issues first...and I known just the property that needs their tender loving care...hasn't been touched in over 60 years.......vivianmoon
And what property would that be? I"m very curious? Especially since my business is downtown. |

The Middletown Cemetery vault hasn't been repaired in over 60 years and is now ready to fall down and the City has refused to repair it for the last 5 years even after I got a grant to help cover the cost. I guess if they don't repair it this year maybe it will be under "demolish blighted buildings" next year. For the past 5 years I have also requested that the CSX property be clean up and it still isn't completed. |

I needed $30,000 to repair the stonework on the vault. The Middletown Community Foundation gave me a grant for $10,000 so the other $20,000 was to be paid by the City from the CDGB money. If the City does not give me the money the grant will be canceled this year. You can see the photos of the vault at this link: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ohmidcem/ |

What a waste! You would think they would want to preserve that piece of Middletown history.
What does Sam Ashworth think about that? Would this type of project fall in with the Middletown Historical Society? |

When I say what a waste I'm talking about the city council.

I really don't need Mr. Ashworth to tell me if something is historic.
Sam Ashworth, and Middletown Historical Society, refused to file 501 C-3 grants for me.
If I can get the vault restored I hope to make it into a little educational museum for the kids to visit and be able to give walking history tours of the cemetery. |

Mr. Ashworth refused to help you with the grants for the vault ehh. Can't imagine why Mr. Ashworth doesn't think that any aspect of the Pioneer Cemetary isn't historical. I can just see George Crout rolling over in his grave on this one. Perhaps you should be running the Historical Society Vivian. You seem to care more about this than they do. Would an appeal to the local contractors for restoration be an option or would it take specialized skills to do this?

First let me state that anytime within the last 60 years if the City had repaired the roof and gutters of the vault we would not be having this conversation... http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ohmidcem/cm-MiltonvilleCemetery.htm. |

I need to make a correction to my above statement.
The Middletown Historical Society did file the 2005 grant for me with the Middletown Community Foundation.
However they did refuse to file any future grants for me in 2007. |

And why is that? Isn't the Pioneer Cemetery, historic?

It is the most historic 11 acres in Middletown and was established May 30, 1827.
The Middletown Cemetery was declared historic in 2005 by the City Council as per Mr. Kohler's request so that CDBG money could be used to restore the vault...however he used all the money downtown and I haven't heard from him since. Donations from the public and grants have supported my efforts at the cemetery for the past 5 years. It's been hundreds of hours of labor with an ax and shovel to get it cleared and cleaned up over the past 5 years. Last year it took us 2 months to clear the Richmond Street west fence line because the trees and shrubs were grown into and through the fence and had to be hand cut out in order not to damage the chain link fence. The East fence line is still a total mess. It's time for the City to do what they promised and start repairing the vault. |

Vivian- Seems there is a trend here. This is not the first time that Kohler's name has been mentioned along with money being re-directed. He seems to have his hands in alot of "money taking an altered course" in projects around the city, and, rumor is, the money ends up in his own little projects. For the good of the city, it sounds like Mr. Kohler needs to go away. He seems to be inhibiting progress. How does he do this without Rusty Carolus knowing about it? OR, is the Finance Dept. looking the other way? If true, perhaps we can put Kohler and Carolus on the same Greyhound bus out of town. Heck, I'd like to fill that bus with some of these clowns down at city hall!

The problem Vet is the City Manager thinks Kohler is wonderful and her righthand man. Personally I think he has control over to much of what goes on in the City and influences things to his liking rather than what is best for the Citizens overall. I think new blood would do wonders for the City.

OK- Just reading the agenda items from the 5/19 date -- Specifically the Charter Committee get togethers. Looks like Mr. Nagy and Mr.Nenni had a disagreement on Council members meeting at Frisch's. Nenni asked if he was there and if not, the info. was just hearsay. In the May 4th meeting, Picard said he wanted the statements in the record as the statements were accusations against the city staff.( So what Picard) Mr. Soppanish said to leave the personal things out of the meeting. Wow- sounds like a little trouble a brewin' and some tension among the troops. We have all indication that there are divisions on this committee and it is rather obvious who the club members are, but we won't mention names will we Picard, Nenni and Scorti? How about Scorti making the statement that he trusts Council??? What would possess one to make a gullible statement of denial like that? Is he seeing what we all are seeing or has he been "blinded by the light"? The struggle continues between the people and the oppressors.

Could someone please verify if a relative or close friend of a City Council candidate is being groomed for a City job? I heard this rumor recently and found it disturbing.
