Gilliland gets rid of Bevis so she can contract with a convicted felon to run the airport.
Go figure.

hey mtown29--I sat with the guy at your Chamber annual meeting.
He seemed very nice, and on the ball.
These kind of things do happen, though not justifying them.
The guy paid a stiff price and is not hiding + trying to move on constructively.
Things happen--and we move on hopefully smarter.

I really liked Mr.Bevis and Wife--really bunned to see them go.

If we want to sell Weatherwax--why not the airport property also?
Honestly I see no reason to sell either

What are you best accomplishments and biggest regrets from your short time on Commission?

well--I used to cater for Fastrax at the airport --they always paid--no surprises.
I have no reason not to trust him.

He is doing what he does--I am sure any other small airport would love to have him.

I believe that he would be more likely to be truthful to me  than most of our city or Council officials.

Go figure.

This statement is not logical in two respects.
1. It states that the city manager 'got rid' of Bevis so she could hire a convicted felon. Really, is that what our city manager does, gets rid of good people so she can hire people who went through our system of justice? I'm not exactly sure how to take this other than it is a stupid and irresponsible statement. That is unless you can provide justification to this.

2. It automatically assumes that a convicted felon can't do a good job. It it is true that indeed this man is a convicted felon, well is has paid his dues. He is acting lawfully and the fact that once he did wrong has nothing to do with the operation of the airport.

Do you remember the Hogans? The airport has had a history of issues in the past. Mr. Bevis is a respectable man, did a good job righting the ship. He is to be commended. Why he is out and a new guy is in is fair game to title a thread. I think you are acting like the police, judge and jury on this man whom most of us know little about. 'cept that is might be a felon.

This title may be misleading or even worse, slanderous.

What say you?

Since when did city leaders, past or present, worry about the morality of those they are working with?  Is a convicted felon any different than the unconvicted ones that seem to either make decisions with regard to city funds, receive city funding, or be in the circle of city cronies?

Sounds like M29 has some sort of personal beef here.

You hit the nail on the head Bill...

Those that live in the big glass house known as City Hall shouldn't be throwing big rocks at others...

Since the above link doesn't work...from MJ:

Business jumping at Middletown airport

Skydiving team to base operations at Hook Field

December 19, 2009

MIDDLETOWN - The Middletown Municipal Airport has finally received "the shot in the arm it has been looking for," said manager Rich Bevis.  City Council approved a lease with Start Skydiving on Dec. 1, agreeing to construct a $350,000 hangar expansion to lure the company's premier skydiving team from the Warren County Airport to Middletown. Team Fast Trax - encompassing nearly 70 employees - have packed their bags and will soon make Middletown their home.

Founder and team member John Hart said his team is hoping to create a world-class skydiving center in Middletown.

"Cincinnati has the Bengals, now Middletown has Fast Trax," he said. "We're excited to get in here and start jumping."

Bevis called the deal a "coup for Middletown," noting the business had an estimated $13 million economic impact in Warren County last year.

"People are going to come from as far away as Japan, China and Russia just to learn skydiving from these guys," Bevis said. "Restaurants, hotels, bars, you name it and it will probably benefit from the team coming to Middletown."

The lease is currently being finalized by the city, Bevis said, with construction on the new hangar expected to begin in early 2010.

"In a time where things are going down for most businesses, we're actually going up," Bevis said.

In addition to paying rent on the new facility, Bevis said the team also will burn through approximately 60,000 gallons of jet fuel every year. The going rate for a gallon of jet fuel is approximately $3.50, he said.

Hart said he has been looking to relocate to Middletown for several years now, as the operation has outgrown its current facilities. Hart said the group did more than 30,000 separate dives last year alone, training an estimated 1,400 new students in the process.

"Our goal is to be here indefinitely," Hart said. "We know we'll be good for Middletown. This community has really embraced us in the past and we just flat-out want to be here."

David Duritsch, Middletown's public works and utilities director, said Fast Trax coming to town is an "important first step in turning the corner" for the airport. Four years after pouring $1.5 million into the facility to purchase the airport's hangars, he said the city is still paying off that debt.

Duritsch estimates the up to $350,000 investment will be paid off within the first five years of Fast Trax's 20-year lease. The team also is investing as much as $225,000 of its own to cover the

interior of the expansion, Duritsch said.

M29,

How do we know we can trust you? Supposed ex-politicians are not the most trust worthy people around.
