Now wait a minute!
"The culture-minded couple also purchased the Pendleton Art Center across the street". IF THEY PURCHASED THE PENDLETON, WHAT WAS THE $265,000 OR SO OF CITY MONEY USED FOR DURING THE EARLY STAGES OF THE PAC? HOW DID THEY END UP OWNING THIS? THE CITY PURCHASED THE PAC WITH CITY TAXPAYER MONEY, DIDN'T THEY? WHEN WAS IT SOLD TO THE MOORMANS AND WHAT WAS THE SELLING PRICE? FURTHERMORE, WHILE WE'RE ON THE SUBJECT OF MOORMAN DOWNTOWN OWNERSHIP, THE STORY MENTIONS THEY BOUGHT THE OLD G.C. MURPHY BUILDING FOR $100. DIDN'T THE CITY LOAN THEM $60,000 OR SO AT THAT TIME AND HAVE THEY PAID THAT BACK AS YET? ALOT OF PAST ACTIVITY THAT SEEMS TO HAVE "FADED AWAY". |

Very interesting reading, Ms. Moon. I wonder why this information wasn't reported by The Middletown Journal, which usually can't seem to publish enough articles about PAC or Beau Verre.
Here's some additional inteersting reading, from the Contract between the City and Verdin approved by City Council in August of 2010: From the Contract for Sale, Section 4 (f):
Now I'm no attorney, but it certainly appears to me: A) that "the Developer" (Pendletown Art Center LLC aka Mr. Verdin, who represented himself as the ONLY one in the world who had the expertise to make this fly) did NOT have the right to sell this, and in doing so is in default of his agreement with the City; B) ownership of the property has reverted to the City; and C) perhaps the Moormans should be contacting a lawyer to recoup any losses they may have sustained due to Mr. Verdin's possible misrepresentation, as they will have no more recourse with the City than someone who "buys" the West Middletown bridge!!!

Section 7A of The Contract:
SECTION 7A. ASSIGNMENT OF AGREEMENT AND COOPERATION ASSIGNMENT
This Agreement shall be binding upon and shall inure to the benefit of the parties hereto and their respective heirs, executors, personal representatives, successors and assigns. This Agreement is not transferable or assignable by Developer absent the City’s express written agreement and consent to such transfer and assignment. [Emphasis added] I don't recall any approval of the transfer of this agreement from Verdin to the Moormans passing City Council. Does anyone else??? |

Wow. It looks like West Chester has their own little Bernie Madaff in Mr. Verdin.
First, he pulls a Professor Harold Hill job on the City of Middletown and gets them to believe in his "boy's band" at PAC just long enough to give his son-in-law $450,000 of taxpayer funds in no-bid construction contracts. Then he sells a Brooklyn Bridge that he doesn't even own to the people across the street. No wonder MMF wants in on the game. They certainly must see the rubes in Middletown as easy pickings as long as the same people are running City Hall. Maybe it's a good thing that Presta lost his bid for City Council. We need someone like him more as City Manager.

The fools are the city of Middletown using a couple who have a niche glass business, to drive their entire downtown investment strategy and paying 0% interest to employ 3 people. That's the reason CS & H left, not because of consolidation, but they washed their hands of the city giving sweet heardt deals to some, but not others.

interesting piece, m29
don't know the author or the publication where it originated. I have found no one who knows anything about this. don't see the harm in posting it here, to be verified or de-bunked. If true--shouldn't the proceeds revert back to the city? The project has been a mixed bag so far. No way that Mr.Verdin should profit from this at taxpayers' expense. Actually, we might be better off if the Moormans acquired ownership. This area is still extremely over the top is subsidized funding and forgiven/delinquent "loans" Anyone check out the crime/police activity for Sunday evening? Sunday-Fathers' Day--US Open--NBA finals--however an incredibly negative evening in the west end war zone districts. It is getting worse around here. We are not safe.

Yesterday about 7 pm, there were two cruisers flying up and down Rosedale, through the major cul de sacs, and then back up Rosedale, and the cul de sacs 2-3 times. Sirens blasting, two cruisers on each others tails as if controlled electronically. Assume a break in on Curryer or Thorn Hill. The decline of the city is mind blowing. The danger is real. There is no safe haven, and this string of activity yesterday was in front of the Police Chief's home, up and down Rosedale. Never seen anything like it,

Are you saying the media would never publish anything that is grossly inaccurate? If so, please read earlier post. |

The illustrious reporter changed the word "brought" to "purchased" misinterpreting the word as "bought". Kinda changes everything....huh?
