From today's Journal RE bike path.......
"Hopes are high for the completed trail, which could draw people to the city, allowing those who use the path to access downtown and Smith Park. “Hopefully some shops spring up that support this activity,” Gilleland said. “If you have ever used a bike path, you know that sites such as ice cream stores, restaurants and bike shops are popular destinations.” |

When I read these nonsensical statements about the bike path, that runs in such steep contradiction to tearing down Sunset and the "quality of life" issues the bike path, and the intangibles are truly the reason for having them to begin, I wonder if council feels it is more important to have a city manager they can pull the strings, such as Ms. G and before that, interim super star recruiter, Mr. H., or this city manager is just not the right person for the job in revitalizing Middletown.
You don't hire a top gun CEO from Coca Cola to do a bankruptcy turnaround at Friendly's restaurant chain, you hire a seasoned exec who has turned around poor performing compnaies. Ms. G is not the right person for Middletown as it goes down the road of decline. On one hand, she is chief advocate for tearing down the swimming pool, again---a qulaity of life issue, and on another--she is the chief advocate for the silly bike path, and now nice little shops people visit on their way their 20 mile sojourn. Council, is it really worth it to have a puppet you can pull the strings, or the right individual who knows how to focus upon turning Middletown around?
When does this madness ever stop? I'd like to wipe out several of the city leaders from Ms. G and on through the ranks, or erase their minds from the use of "buzz words" they get from speaking to Bill Murphy now in Cincinnati, and these mindless marketing people whom talk about "regionalization", key partnerships", strategic alliances, "point of desination", desinations, it is really annoying, and very ignorant.
What is this deram for Middletown? Young, Masters degreed yuppies flocking to Middletown, buying a house, going to PAC once a month for the wine and cheese, and three times a week, riding the Gary Fisher 35 speed mountain bile up and down the trail? Wrong person at the wheel, time to get a real pilot in the cockpit that has flown through some turbulence, than on the ground in the flight simulator with "auto pilot" on 100% of training time.
Ignorance is not acceptable.
Rumor has it former Dean Cowens will become the Dean at the C State Allied Health College in Middletown- sidebar.

The City may have thought that the bike path was a great project to spend the Energy Grant on….however 30 days before the project was approved the Fire Chief came before the city council and requested funding to upgrade the fire houses. I’m sure that these buildings could have used this grant to reduce their utility bills and save a few dollars of tax payer’s money. IT'S TIME TO GET FRUGEL!! |

Middletown leadership is a case study in the Peter Principle- management rise to the upper most of their incompetency.
Arguably, they are the underpinning of Einstein's theory of relativity- e= mc2
Are we falling slowly, or fast, 9.8 mm/sec 2?

This is a problem that is much bigger than Mtown local employees. The amount of money it is taking to plow thru the river bottom trees along 73 in order to lay black top for the wkend warriors is insane. |

More insanity from the city manager. Incoherent mumbling about the bike path, the restaurants and places visited by the few (in relation to the masses) as if the dam bike path has any major attraction feature about it. Ridiculous and shows a major flaw in any connection with reality the city manager ever had. It is a weekend exercise event for yuppies with racing bikes Gilleland and is a very minor player in the overall list of what is important around here. Mercy, why don't you see things for what they really are? Just once, I would like you and others to focus on an agenda that would help this dam city.

Citizens, Middletonians, think about this: On the one hand we have Waynesville, a small village of some 3,000 humble souls, which manages to draw upwards of 350,000 people to their annual fall event each October by featuring the lowly foodstuff SAUERKRAUT! They manage to do it without a large influx of cash first confiscated from the taxpayers. On the other hand we have Middletown, a city of nearly 50,000 run by a small circle of snobs, which tries to pooh-pooh its high cultural standing by showcasing its vast knowledge of the world with “Midfest” each October. Even with $25,000 of seed money from the hardworking taxpayers each year, this event barely manages to draw 8% of the attendance (even using “Mort’s Method” of inflated attendance calculations) of lowly Waynesville’s Sauerkraut Festival. The “Bash” constantly proves that rock ‘n’ roll outdraws the symphony; Waynesville constantly proves that ‘kraut outdraws culture; and these last few years prove that airshows outdraw art! Why can’t Donham Plaza get it? What don’t they understand? Why do they keep wasting our money? We must clean house at city hall and we must start November 8. If we wait any longer it will be too late. If we wait any longer it will be YOUR fault! |

I think this is a great examply of Middletown's leaders being 10 years too late. I remember the bike path being a hot issue 10 years ago or so.
I knew several bike riders were upset that Middletown was the only spot in the path that was "broken", stopping them from completing a ride from Cincinnati to Columbus. But nobody cares anymore. There are more pressing issues.
Gilleland is right, the small shops on the bike paths draw a lot of business. Again that was 10 years ago. Friends and I used to travel to Waynesville frequently for a ride, have lunch and snacks along the path. The path was very busy. Not sure that is still the case.
Since the Judy brings up the idea of shops on the bike paths, how many offers have there been to build a shop along path? And why aren't there any by now??
As far a Midfest vs the "Kraut" festival-- Do the "eliteist" in Middletown want the "rednecks" that the an event like the Saurerkraut festival would draw?
It is amazing the amount of poor in this town that don't/won't vote. Maybe this is another reason to keep the section 8 vouchers where they are. No opposition. Only a few voters turn out. Guaranteed wins and can do whatever they want with the money
