At the last housing meeting Mr. Adkins stated that in January 2011 an additional 200 Section 8 vouchers were added.
When did the City Council approve this increase in Section 8 vouchers? |

Certainly you are mistaken!!! Everyone knows that it is the stated goal of the City of Middletown and the Middletown Public Housing Authority (AKA the Middletown City Council) to REDUCE the number of Section 8 vouchers!!!

Perhaps a citizen can ask them that question in Citizens Comments during the next council meeting. I'd like to see the reaction on a liar's face when they are confronted. Only solution- again- purge council- purge the city building and start over. This will continue along with the downward trend for our city until that happens.
Gilleland and crew have no other cards to play to produce revenue for the city. No company of any significance will locate here with the ineptness in the way the town is run. They must rely on federal funds at the expense of making this town a low income dump and are doing a very nice job in creating a ghetto along the way. Mr. Laubach, Ms. Scott-Jones, don't you both think this has gone on far too long? Isn't it time to start planning the firing of the city manager, the law director, planning director, Mr. Adkins and others who are damaging this city beyond repair? Hopefully, changes in personnel in city council will help you achieve this. Hopefully, the voters can purge the scourge that is the MMF candidate influence. |

Other than gaining some fed dollars for revenue for this cash strapped city, I fail to understand why a group of seven council people can sit behind that desk and not ask questions, not allow an escalation of vouchers, not drive around this city with an open eye and mind and not put a stop to HUD cramming this extra ghetto creating addition to this city. Why aren't people like Becker, Mulligan, Allen, Picard, Smith and Laubach also asking questions like Ms. Scott-Jones is preparing to do? Why do they all sanction this additional poverty magnet program to town? Can't they see that this program is helping destroy what little credibility we have left as a city? Under the current and past administrations, we as a city, have gone from a solid middle-class town to a lower class town in a period of less than 30 years. Franklin use to be the talk of the area as to lower class towns. Now, they have risen above us and we are the talk of the area as to slipping into the abyss. We are the bottom of barrel. Why would any city leader want that for this town? Why do we the people want city leaders who sanction such thoughts?

Maybe council is anticipating more foreclosure's in the future which means they can buy up more houses for rehab and rent them section 8. If the city refuses to bring in jobs then might as well bring in people who have no job because then people aren't looking for a job which means they are jobless and are looking for a section 8 home because they have no money since they have no job in which there are no jobs in Middeltown to apply for so they are all section 8. Makes perfect sense to me.

Posting For Pacman:
If I am not mistaken, CONSOC was within their contractual rights to issue 200 extra vouchers. This was most likely done to increase their revenue prior to them losing the contract to administer the section 8 program. Funny that this time last year, we were told that section 8 vouchers would be drastically cut by summer 2011. I believe this was stated at the meeting for citizens held at Mrs Scott-Jones house. The only thing that I see that has been moved is the section 8 office that is now located on Elliot Dr. @Hermes & Vet - I believe that at the budget meeting in May, Caroulas stated (and I am paraphrasing), That he did not believe Middletown's tax revenue would ever reach previous years totals. To me this means, do no look for any significant job growth in Middletown. Pacman |
