Tonights City Council meeting is pretty slow thus far. The MPHA  was all of 5 minutes. I guessing  that is a good thing. Isn't that the saying "no news is good news"

With all that Becker just said tonight about the city budget my question is, where was Becker last week as Josh was being tossed to the wolves?

Randy,
Bill Becker addressed that in his comments and referred to what happened at the last council meeting. I was glad he acknowledge the last council meeting.
Tonight, I give a big thumbs up to Bill Becker and Dan Picard. The administration is still playing lots of games on lots of fronts. They tried their vindication against  Lennie Robinson and the doctors again tonight. They were an embarrassment to council again tonight.
Council please fire Judy Gilliland, Marty Kohler and Les Landen and lets get this city on the right track. That will go a long way in dealing with the serious issues that Bill Becker so strongly continues to raise.
Ordinarily I would have said that this city could be run by Betsy Parr, Cindy Strayer and Sara Mills. They are very competent.  But tonight Sara Mills fell all over herself continuing the administrations vendettas.
We can still save the city but we don't have much time. We warned the city in 2007 and they totally ignored it. We could have been much better positioned than we are now.
The economy is getting worse not better.  Wait until  the Federal Reserve is challenged in February and see where we end up. Our hope is in the new state administration in January.

First I will tell you that I have emailed Betsy Parr and requested a copy of the letter from Mr. Jim Stabler, of the Middletown Historical Society to the City concerning the Bank One Building.

Second, Ms Judy just got us again.

When I sat on the board of the Middletown Historical Society in 2005 Mr. Sam Ashworth and Mr. Larry Mulligan were talking with Thatcher then to obtain the
Bank One Bank Building. However they did not have the funds and they sure do not have the funds for this building now. It is my understanding that they can’t afford to make the repairs on the current two buildings that they own.

So now that the City has cleared all the liens on the property the City is now going to GIVE the property to the Middletown Historical Society?

Thmbs up to Mr. Smith Thumbs%20Up and Mr Picard Thumbs%20Up for their questions on this issue.

Also a thumbs up to Mr. BeckerThumbs%20Up

Anyone with any grasp of reality should’ve seen this coming when they included these “extra” buildings to be “mothballed” as part of the “bulk purchase” with no good reason for doing so.

Next will be an attempt at a paid position for the “boy toy”.

They will cry that we are going broke.  They will cry that we must raise the payroll tax rate and the property tax rate.

Yet, we are renting out hangers at a rate that is below the cost to the city and we will be giving buildings to every non-profit organization favored by anyone close to high-placed city officials.

Not only is the city "in business", but they are running those businesses in a very inept manner:  No signed leases; failure to provided written notices of rent increases in a timely manner; setting rates below costs--all reasons why the city does NOT belong "in business"!!!

Mr.Nagy, I don't follow the meetings, and I agree the state adminsitration will take care of the pension issues, as kasisch isn't going to have bankruptcy be part of his administration, but can you share some insight what is going on with Lenny Robinson and the doctors? I haven't kept up with the appeals and such. Are physicians wanting to put offices out there near the Atrium and running into roadblocks?

Now, the "moth balled" buildings Mr. Presta references. Is it a correct assumption Mr. Kohler is so strongly tied to protecting his property and others (including the Mulligans, plural), that they want these peripheral buildings saved instead of being torn down to protect the interest of those on Main Street? I'm just trying to comprehend the connection with Kohler, historic, which I think I "get" and his role in his poistion and personal interest in the historic property.

Finally, Mr. Presta, may I ask, and I admit i'm in the dark on many daily affairs of the city leadership and their personal matters, but who is the "boy toy" and is association, and with whom? I just need a quick Lost in Translation fix if you have the time to post.

What did the council members do? Did they rail against the actions a few weeks ago, say the costs were runaway, or what?

The fed will not be raising interest rates Mr. Nagy, but the funds thrown out by Obama will be reined in by the repub Congress. Thx for any quick clarity.

Acclaro,
Mr. Robinson and the doctors own some property on the east side of 75. They want to invest in a commercial development of about 4.5 million dollars and will supply about 80 jobs. In an effort to block it Kohler embarrassed himself and the planning commission. He and the administration have tried to block it in council meetings as well.  The resolution they brought tonight was supposed to be there at last council meeting but was brought tonight and they continued to try to stall it again tonight. The city had been asked to vacate a piece of property between the two properties that Mr. Robinson and the doctors own in an LLC. In an attemp to prevent them from continuing and to be vindictive they filed a lawsuit against Mr. Robinson and the LLC for criminal charges regarding a sign on the property. The court threw it out as unconstitutional. This was another Kohler/Landen masterpiece. Not satisfied they then filed an appeal at taxpayers expense. Under pressure from council and citizens they withdrew the appeal. So much for being business friendly. Imagine how other investors will feel?
Tonight they said that they did not have anything certain regarding the buildings they purchased downtown. The council members looked astonished that it was not as the administration had represented it, Mr. Mulligan's comments notwithstanding. They have wasted millions of taxpayer dollars downtown at taxpayers expense to no avail. The rest of the city can't get that kind of consideration. It is another evidence of their ineptness and lack of professionalism. They must be fired. The historic Commission is a joke and illegal. The resolution regarding it could have been done by a first grader and council has embarrased themselves by passing it. It is another Kohler/Landen masterpiece.
The Federal Reserve is coming under investigation in the next couple of months under the leadership of Ron Paul. It could do a lot of damage to our economy or straighten it out. We shall see.   I think its extremely serious.
Thanks for being community interested enough to ask the questions.

Acclaro:

A couple of meetings ago, when the decision to buy buildings for CSTCC was made, it seemed clear that CSTCC was only interested in the CG&E building, the former Senior Center building, and the Manchester Inn properties for the foreseeable future. When Robinette was pressed about why the other two buildings (the former Barnitz Bank and the former First National Bank) were being included both he and Lawrence P. Mulligan, Jr. hemmed and hawed and muttered and sputtered and finally said something to the effect: “”They could be mothballed” and “There are some possibilities for other uses down the road” about the two bank buildings.

Even though it seems to have made no sense to do so, the two bank buildings were included in the “package” that was purchased from the late Mr. Thatcher’s estate.

It is common knowledge throughout the community that the Middletown Historic Society wants the former Barnitz Bank Building, although for what reason remains a matter of speculation since they are rumored to be on the verge of bankruptcy. Of course it is also common knowledge that Mr. and Mrs. Mulligan, Mr. Kohler, and Mr. Sam Ashworth all have been very involved with the Historic Society, including holding various offices at various times.

Mr. Ashworth has also been seen around town as the steady escort of Ms. Gilleland.

Draw your own conclusions.

Mike
Sam Ashworth is on the current board of the Middletown Historical Society.
This is a simply case of Ms Judy using her power to obtain a $100,000 + building at tax payers expense to give to the historic gentleman with whom she shares an address.
This is just another way to cover up for what has happened at the Middletown Historical Society over the past 15 years.
Don't believe me? Simply ask MHS for a financial statement.
Where is the Million Dollars Fund left to MHS by Mr Crout?

....and then we have the airport and where the City can't figure out how to make this "City Owned Business" break even.

Mr. Presta,
If what you are saying is true (and I believe it is), there are many appearances of impropriety and conflicts of interest.  We need some investigations to go on.

Thank you the clarification Mike, Paul and Vivian. Now I understand the picture. Mr. Landen has had numerous matters over-turned on appeal, including tax statutes. Its also questionable and a violation of ethics to use a criminal remedy as a means of extracting money for what would be a civil matter, and unconstitutional. Ergo 1210, making it a criminal offense for not putting in mortar on a chimney or spraying for termites which causes damage in a window casing. That clearly is civil, not criminal.

Too bad Lenny had to spend funds to defend this. I had no idea the docs were wanting to invest and were road-blocked. I thought they wanted to move there, which will be Phase 11, watch out Breihel.

These actions explains the shill deal for the landscaper on getting the ward system changed for the good of Middletown. Is he on the Historic Landmark Commision, or what reward washe given? Seems keeping Main Street is top priority for a few concil members, throw in these buildings, have the Middletown Foundation fill the void where Frost Brown and Todd left, and they are protecting their property valuesdown the strip.

Would appear the 1210 violations are numerous.

Paul,
The only "investigations" that will go on will happen under the cloak of secrecy in executive sessions under the guise of the "competitive bidding" exception to the Open Meetings laws, as usual.

It is my understanding that the old Bank One building has some serious issues with it.  I heard years ago it had a major issue with black mold.  I assumed that was true as they moved the Prepatory school from there.  I am assuming the city would be responsible for any maintenance required for this and the other buildings - where will the funds come from.

Paul, I just posted the video of Becker's comments last night. i do agree with you that he is thinking about the right stuff now and sees that something has to change. But I disagree that he explained why he didn't say these things at the last meeting as Josh was being left out for the firing squad
